Re: Best "sweeping/epic" score

Given it's their bread and butter,, I won't be surprised to hear this Two Steps From Hell track used in several upcoming trailers (be they for movies, games, or TV shows).

John Woo's RED CLIFF (2008) has a good score by Japanese composer Taro Iwashiro.

Say what you will about the movie itself, the score was top notch:

Re: Best "sweeping/epic" score

This thread popping up again made me notice an omission...

Jerry Goldsmith's score for Star Trek: The Motion Picture

The Main Theme is tremendous (even if its impact has been somewhat diluted by its later re-use on TV as the theme to Star Trek: The Next Generation):

<iframe width="320" height="240" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/gsHBpx6pdUA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The Klingon Battle music is fantastic and almost as memorable as the main theme:

<iframe width="320" height="240" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/XjlBXmn2Q0s" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Ilia's Theme (aka, the love theme) is so great that it's used as the Overture to the film (this is one of the last films to have one of those):

<iframe width="320" height="240" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Nt9dOIdGIeM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

And the rest of the music is also amazing, such as the Vejur Flyover music:

<iframe width="320" height="240" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/kPQjYQZ7wW0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

And I also should mention the End Titles (End Credits) music, which is basically a suite starting with a reprise of the Main Theme and then transitioning to a reprise of Ilia's Theme and following that with a great march (starting at the 2:09 mark) which is one of my favorite parts of the entire score. This is a movie I always watch through the end credits just because the music is so good:

<iframe width="320" height="240" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/6YgRCF1e5A0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

When I hear anyone describe this movie as boring, all I think is "they clearly weren't listening to it".

Just bought that soundtrack to Star Trek The Motion Picture today. The theme dialed up to ear bleeding levels is awesome. My sub is also crying.

I have an old two-speaker analog stereo with cassette decks and the speakers in my HDTV . I have a plasma, now I suppose hearing well is the next step.

The new stuff Goldsmith created for Star Trek V was pretty good too.

Re: Best "sweeping/epic" score

Ramin Djawadi has composed many great scores (including music for several seasons of Game Of Thrones). His score to Dracula Untold is also very good.

Yup. I bought that CD. I love the theme track.

But his theme for Mako is my favorite.

I also love his music for Medal Of Honor.

Re: Best "sweeping/epic" score

I've yet to play Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor but chanced upon the score. It's wonderful. I am pleasantly surprised they resisted to urge to rip off the film scores and gave the game its own musical identity.

Re: Best "sweeping/epic" score

Beautiful orchestral arrangement of the music of The Legend of Zelda (spanning the various games).
