But that really has nothing to do with the editing category. He did get a screenplay nod.

The real gap in the editing category was Enter the Void, but maybe that qualifies as a 2009 movie?

Editing usually syncs up with the Best Picture nominees most likely to win.

If you want to know what your Top 5 would have been if there weren't a Top 10 -- you can almost guarantee it'd be:

Outstanding Achievement in Editing:
Black Swan
The Fighter
The King's Speech
127 Hours
The Social Network

(Since 1981, every film selected as Best Picture has also been nominated for the Film Editing)

Just rewatched the nominee announcement. "Helen A. Bonham Carter"

I think I understand how Toy Story 3 is eligible for Adapted Screenplay now; some of the characters existed previously in in another medium, not necessarily a previous installment of the franchise.

Here's the criteria for Adapted Screenplay:

Any screenplay based on material previously published. It can be a book, a play, a musical, a TV show, another movie or a newspaper article.

Even if the original material was nominated for Original Screenplay, subsequent uses of the material qualify it for Adapted Screenplay.

Tron Legacy not getting nominations for visual effects or original score is horseshit.

I guess Disney/BV didn't campaign it properly. Hereafter had some cheesy ass effects and somehow got nominated.

Also Enter the Void was released via IFC's video on demand, therefore making it illegible?

Oh well, I guess that would explain their absences in the nominations. Too bad, though.

Seriously! Can't believe Alice in Wonderland's horrid visuals got nominated instead. What a farce...

Also pissed about no director nod for Nolan. The academy blows.

Re: Oscar nominations for 2010 (Ceremony 2/27/2011)

I started writing out some predictions and then realized all my picks were exactly the same as the Golden Globe winners.

I got a chance to rewatch Social Network again and it is my favorite film of the year so I'll be rooting mostly for that. If any movie swoops in and takes it away from SN I hope it's The Fighter... although that's a long shot.

I think Christian Bale and Natalie Portman will run away with their respective awards. I can see them giving best actress to Annette Bening though... but if anyone but Bale wins it's a crime.

I think Fincher takes best director, he did a great job with Social Network... but I'm rooting for the dark horse Darren Aronofsky.

Really surprised and disappointed not to see Mila Kunis nominated.

How is Hailee Steinfeld's performance in True Grit a supporting one?

It's not, but she has a better chance of winning in that category which is probably why she chose it.

Re: Oscar nominations for 2010 (Ceremony 2/27/2011)

TRUE GRIT got ten noms. SALT got one (for Sound Mixing).

So the only two films I liked in 2010 got acknowledged. That was actually more than I'd hoped for, so I can't complain.

Salt wasn't bad for a middle of the road friday night date movie, but seriously one of your favorites?

Glad to see 'Winters Bone' get some Good Noms. Totally deserving.

Once people actually see it, Blue Valentine may end up being a film that was snubbed as well.

The visuals were the ONLY thing going for "AIW". It deserved that nomination.

While I enjoyed "True Grit" a great deal, I don't think Bridges should have been nominated. It just wasn't that great a performance. That slot should have gone to Ryan Gosling for "Blue Valentine" or Leonardo for either "Shutter Island" or "Inception".
