Movie-related Tattoos: Got any? Want any?

So a few months back I decided I wanted to get a tattoo, but it took awhile for me to figure out what I wanted. The idea was to get something low concept in appearance but with significant personal meaning (a friend of mine ruined his arm by drawing his own concept of something about an angel stabbing a naked man in the heart and the thing turned into a complete abortion).

I finally decided upon the banner from "Seven Samurai". Toshiro Mifune's Kikuchiyo, the peasant who became a samurai, the quintessential iconoclast who refused to let society dictate who or what he was, held deep meaning to me. The triangle among circles is a strong image.

So at age 39, I got my first tattoo. Located high up my right arm just below the shoulder, not even visible in short sleeves. I'm still pretty conservative about my professional appearance and I don't want anything visible except for whenever I decide to whip it out. And the tattoo too.

Anyway, here it is:

I was VERY pleased by how it came out. Dave Poole (the artist) did a great job with the fine detail, the shading, and replicating the brush strokes on canvas.

Since this is primarily an entertainment forum, I was curious if anyone else out there had any movie-related tattoos, or if they wanted any. A buddy I went to high school with has, among other tats, a freakin' Stormtrooper helmet. Eesh.

Thanks! I was real lucky, I was a walk-in and Dave (the owner) was free; apparently he has some 3-month waiting list and is only in town one weekend a month.

Here's the original: I think he captured it nicely.

Mine is sort of film related. It's a line from Cormac McCarthy's The Road. My favorite book. It reads "Each the other's world entire." The Hawaiian motif (the plumeria and endangered alala) matches the quarter sleeve on my shoulder. (My son is part Hawaiian and I have his Hawaiian middle name on my bicep.)

I also have this above my right elbow.

Which is from the La Dolce Vita movie poster. (I'm part Italian, and I collect old movie posters.) The letters are a little squashed (when the guy reduced the image to trace on my arm, the spacing between letters shrunk). I love it, however. And planning on getting the image of Anita Ekberg above it.

Both look pretty sweet. I wasn't feeling the "Dolce Vita" one until I saw the movie poster and then I "got it". I like the colors on the former, they look great together. I could never get something like that, mostly due to professional reasons, so I'm a little envious.

Thanks, man.

Really cool that you took the plunge. Takes some courage to sit in that chair for the first time. Plotting your next one? Hard to stop after that first one.

Fortunate that I have a job that I'll be in until I retire. (A guy I work with has full arm and leg sleeves, and two others have full sleeves.)

Well not DIRECTLY movie specific but...being a filmmaker (well student filmmaker..but still) I plan on getting this on my inner forearm all the way to my inner bicep (in other wards...in a line straight up).

Everyone told me the same thing. Once I got this one, I'd be hooked and want another one immediately. I thought they were crazy. Now I'm like plotting my next move like the Monday morning after a genre movie has a blockbuster opening weekend and the studio execs are screaming SEQUEL!!

Seriously, I was a bit nervous about it at first. Plenty of friends have tattoos and I had been with them before to get them, so I knew what to expect. Since the upper arm is so "meaty", there was really no pain or anything and Dave and I chatted about metal for the 45 minutes it took, so it was over pretty quickly.

I've given some thought about another, but I'm really going to take my time. It's gotta be the right image for the right reasons. At one point I was even contemplating a "Daffy Duck as Robin Hood" tattoo but I'm kinda glad I didn't go down that route. I am considering a masonic symbol though. I'm a 3rd-generation Freemason and there is a wealth of beautiful imagery out there I'd love to consider.

Sweet  I do corporate IT as well as my own consulting and, as much as I'd hope or like to believe otherwise, you never know when one very lucrative client or Sr. Exec might have an instant turn-off switch for signs of "outside agitators". Plegh.

I still laugh at Steve-O's tattoo of himself giving a thumbs-up on his back.

Halloween poster artwork on my upper arm, Ghostbusters "patch" logo close to it and on the lower wrist the Michael Myers thorn which I've been asked about alot and always have some funny answer as to what it is. My favorite being a tiny hat in case it rains.

I like nerdy fun tatoos as much as those with meaning.

I sometimes find myself wanting the tattoos from the Boondock Saints movies (Veritas/Aequitas) but know I would never get them . So no, because I'm too much of a chicken.

I have that tattooed on my upper right bicep near the shoulder. I have a picture somewhere, will post when I find it.

I got it back in 1999 in the height of the Blair Witch mania around the movie. No regrets as it still stands as my favorite horror movie.

I have a few other interesting (non movie related) tattoos also, so this is one of the easier ones to explain when somebody asks.

I don't have a tattoo because I'm a wimp, but I believe if I ever DID get one, it'd be of JAWS.

I have a tatoo of the Imperial symbol on my upper left arm. That's right, I'm the guy with the Star Wars tattoo. Its actually funny in the summer to see how many folks recognize it and how many folks say "what is that supposed to be".

Like you Hokey, I wanted something from a movie I love but didn't want it to scream 'star wars geek'.

Friend of mine has the rebel alliance symbol on the back of one arm and the imperial symbol on the other.

i've always kinda wanted to get a tattoo of the Spinal Tap volumn knob that goes to 11, maybe with one of the Stonehendge things surrounding it.

HokeyBoy - I love that tattoo, after I got the Criterion Rerelease of Seven Samurai I was thinking that the symbols on the cover would make a great tattoo, but thought it needed more. I never thought to put the whole flag as a tattoo though.
