I went and saw this movie with my wife last night. There has been a lot of buzz around it, so we went to see it.

While all the pieces seem like it's going to work, it really didn't.

The music was great, but the movie was not. It was riddled with clichés left and right, and the only real enjoyable acting was Garrett Hedlund (who is also in Tron: Legacy...and he really shows his range here).

An interesting fact is that Paltrow, Hedlund, and Meester all did their own singing. And did it well.

It's a 17% at Rotten Tomatoes (Fresh: 13; Rotten: 63) right now.

Anyone else see it?

My advice: skip the movie and buy the sound track.

I will most likely never see this film.

But, thanks for the heads up on not seeing it anyway.

Just the stupid title alone makes me not want to see this movie. This and Season of the Witch will keep me out of the theaters until something better comes along.

A redneck chick flick with an over-privileged upper-class New York girl in the lead. If it had been a remake of MOONSHINE COUNTY EXPRESS (or any similar Claudia Jennings movie) and featured car chases, shootouts and way-too-tight tank tops, I might have been interested.

I normally don't bash films before I see them, but this looks like such a retread of Crazy Heart, it's funny.

At least people went to see that for Jeff Bridges. Paltrow? No thanks.

and that is a stupid name for a movie.

The original title of the film was another track off the soundtrack, Love Don't Let Me Down.

The previews remind me of (1976)A STAR IS BORN.
Seems people here seem to be against this movie because it's country music and it's culture.

I can't speak to the film itself, but Country Strong boasts one of the most spectacularly hackneyed trailers in recent memory. Paltrow must've owed someone a huge favor to be willing to do this kind of material.

Actually, she did Duets (is that the title?) where she also sang. Also she just did an ep of Glee. So if I had to guess: She likes to sing and wanted to try some country... "Agent! Get me in a movie about country singers!"

Didn't she also appear at the Country Music Awards or somesuch nonsense singing and promoting this movie? She's been really trying to sell it hard. Meh. ****y.

I've always found it kind of cool that so many actors have reasonably decent voices (Duvall in Tender Mercies and McGregor in Moulin Rouge are the first come to mind). I wouldn't doubt that Paltrow can sing like a bird.

What I meant, though, was that this film looks like crap-flavored pabulum. Paltrow is fairly high profile, so I don't know who she pissed off to get paired opposite Tim McGraw, who may be the singularly least talented individual to emerge from 90s country music.

Re: Country Strong (2010; directed by Feste; starring Paltrow, McGraw, Hedlund, Meest

I saw the film over the weekend using an AMC gift card (thankfully). In short, not good. The screenplay/story is a complete cluster fuck. It's just so disjointed and all over the map. At one point I just gave up trying to figure out who was with who and why. I'm not a fan of country music but the songs weren't bad. Most surprising for me was Hedlund. He was actually really good. He had the most screen time and this really is his movie. I recommend renting this at best if you must see it at all.

I enjoyed it. I'm not a country music fan but I can tolerate some country music. The story kept me interested and I wanted to see if Paltrow's character would be able to turn her life around. Overall good acting. Worth watching to make the wife happy if she wants to see it.

The poster relates to the ending of both movies.

If you're referring to the movie, yes. But that song and video are no worse than any other current country pop star or song.

Agreed. It's just as bad as all the other current country pop stars or songs.

Country Strong (2010)

I've just seen the country music movie COUNTRY STRONG and really enjoyed it. It reminded me of the Jeff Bridges movie CRAZY HEART from the previous year which I also enjoyed. I was wondering if anyone here knows of any other equally good country music related movies I should seek out?
