Here is the synopsis from the trailer page on Apple:
Here is the synopsis from the trailer page on Apple:
"One of filmdom's most beloved trios - 'Ice Age's' Manny, Diego, and Sid-embark upon their greatest adventure after cataclysm sets an entire continent adrift. Separated from the rest of the herd, they use an iceberg as a makeshift ship, which launches them on an epic seafaring quest to find the others. Manny and the gang are challenged like never before to become heroes and do the impossible, as they encounter exotic sea creatures, explore a brave new world, and battle ruthless pirates. And Scrat's reunion with his cursed nut catapults him to places no prehistoric squirrel has gone before."

I was wondering if they had another one up their sleeves when I saw this short before seeing (sleeping during) Gulliver's Travels.

I really love the Scrat character. Keep thinking I'd love to see a film just about him, but these shorts are probably good enough... wouldn't want to overdo it. Still haven't seen the 3rd one - it was pretty decent right?

It's okay. Scrat gets a girlfriend, if that entices you.

I figured they had milked this franchise dry already, but I guess when a $90m animated flick makes $887m worldwide you're bound to have another sequel.
I'll probably wind up seeing it, though after getting to play with 3D at home, I don't think I'd pay to see it in 3D in theaters.

Yeah, it's shocking to see Ice Age 3 made $690.1 million overseas. It's tied for 4th place of all time (with Alice in Wonderland of all things) in overseas grosses... only the two James Cameron behemoths and the final LotR movie top it.

That's totally stunning. Imagine how much it might have made if it had an actual plot.

When I had read about IA3's earnings a few months back I was surprised as well... I didnt care as much for the thrid... hoping this one will be better...
Really liked the first two and Scrat rules, I had a dog who I nicknamed Scrat because he had a similar affection towards his tennis balls he played with...

Bumping for opening weekend. At least this won't have the same no-thread fate as Happy Feet 2!

ummmm ... I'm still trying to formulate an opinion of the film.
...
The 3D was fun. Technically it's great and a lot of 'pop' out moments. The 3D is well integrated when you compare it to Pixar's efforts, where the 3D seems like the last thing in their mind.
The Post gave the film 3 stars out of 4 - I don't why - it wasn't THAT good. But it's definitely better than the barf inducing second film.
The continual "importance of family" stressed in Ice Age 3 and this isn't subtle in the least
ugh... again?
IMO the Simpson's 'Maggie' short that precedes the feature film is the highlight

I was tempted to to go just to see the Simpsons short but I have to wonder if it will be an extra on the 15th season BDs this winter.

I liked it, quite a bit more than Madagascar 3 and slightly better than IA: Dawn of the Dinos. IA3 suffered from poor direction and everything felt claustrophobic to force the 3D action. This was much more open and inviting. Just in that minor change of direction, it just feels more epic and adventurous. IA3 & Mad3 also suffer from bloated casts. Just because a new character is introduced in a sequel doesn't mean they need to be around for the next one. This is where Ice Age 3 triumphs over Madagascar 3.
This one did exactly what I felt was needed for both series, instead of getting bigger, more bloated and bombastic they went back to the basics. They basically dumped all the secondary characters from IA2 & 3 and focused on the 3 leads, and it worked magnificently. Romano, Leary & Leguizamo are great together and they filmmakers let them be great together. The rest of the cast/characters were relegated to minor screen time. One of the weakest parts of the film was teenage Peaches so it was good that it wasn't the main focus of the film despite the heavy handed lesson at the end. The absolute weakest part of the film? Some pirate song and dance number that was completely out of place, and just terrible.
I loved that Scrat's overused antics finally have a payoff in the beginning, and to an extent the end. I loved that little "twist" to the acorn saga. Kids won't get either bit though.
I'd rank it second only to the original.
Overall, I'd say 3 out of 4 is about right and it will be a welcome addition to the collection.

At the end of the last new Scrat short on Disney Plus, on for just a couple seconds and you have to pause to read it (their stupid interface probably discourages you from even seeing the end credits, but I've been using Kodi), they put the following message:
Scrat was the first character to appear in Blue Sky's first movie, Ice Age. Like him, we were reaching for something that might have been unattainable. Yet time after time both we and Scrat have managed to get our arms around versions of that elusive acorn.
Unfortunately it's not possible to hold on to anything forever.
We've had more fun bringing our movies to life than anyone should be allowed. We hope you've been able to feel some of that joy.
Thank you, from the bottom of our collective Blue Sky hearts, for being with us all these years.
Translation: "Disney fucked us."

For what it’s worth, I put on the latest Ice Age movie, “The Adventures of Buck Wild” or whatever the fuck it was called, that went straight to Disney+ On for my kids a couple weeks ago. It’s damn near unwatchable. It looks cheap, sounds cheap, and overall, feels cheap.
I haven’t kept up with the Ice Age movies passed the second one but I always liked Scrat. It’s nice to see him get his acorn in the end.

So who made Buck Wild? Blue Sky or Disney?
It's been forever since I watched any of the Ice Age flicks but from memory, 3 was solid and I think I enjoyed 4 more.

Disney… with Bardel Entertainment doing the animation. It was originally planned as a television series with Blue Sky Studios producing it. When Blue Sky was closed by Disney, work continued on Adventures of Buck Wild.
