"Scrooged" vs "Bad Santa" (director's cut)

I wish I had thought of this a few days ago, but what the hey. What do you think is the better "Curmudgeon Christmas Comedy".

I watched "Scrooged" just a few days ago and was floored by just how incredibly dark it still is. Bobcat Goldthwait holding people hostage by shotgun and forcing them to celebrate comes to mind.

Still the "advent calendar scene" ("that's an awesome fuckin' story, kid.")in "Badder Santa" (left out of the director's cut) still gets me chuckling at Billy Bob's world weary Santa.

I think "Scrooged" trumps "Bad Santa" in terms of witty dialogue and comic imagination, but "Bad Santa" has moxy to spare when it comes to boundary pushing. I personally am going to give it up for "Scrooged"--even if they could show "Bad Santa" uncensored 24/7 on cable during the holidays, I still don't think they would now or 20 years from now.

Scrooged, simply for the text running as a border around his room:

Cross: (n) A thing they nail people to.

Definitely Scrooged. Bad Santa is hilarious, but Scrooged benefits from the classic Christmas Carol structure, and Bill Murray over Billy Bob any day. Plus it's got David Johansen!

I love Scrooged, but I've seen very few films as dark & disturbing as Bad Santa.
