All of them around here ended on Dec 17th so I can see the confusion.

Re: The Last Fockin' Weekend Box Office Thread for 2010 (12/24 - 12/26)

Public schools got out on December 16th here and don't go back until the 4th.

My mom, who is employed by Wynn, also been taking two-to-three days off the past few weeks as her vacation time expires at the end of every year. If that goes for her, that goes for a lot of the full time employees in Vegas.

Sucks for them, mine just keeps rolling on until I'm fired or quit.

True Grit looks like it'll take in $100 mil. And Black Swan will definitely earn more than $50 mil. I don't think I would have guessed that prior to the film's opening, even with all the buzz. It's now Aronofsky's highest grossing film to date.

I thought The Wrestler was pretty profitable.

Highest grossing = box office take, regardless of profitability. Although, this one will be his most profitable as well.

BTW, is there any chance that True Grit could eventually pass Little Fockers, if TG gets an Oscar boost?

I think so, even without oscar noms. Both seem headed for about 125-135.

I think given the hold TRON: Legacy can scrape together $150 here and $150 overseas for a solid $300m theatrical take, plus probably do fairly well on Blu-Ray with the original finally being available. Don't know if it will be enough to prompt Disney to do a sequel, but I still hope we can get one more.

Based on this weekend's estimates, it'll have a total take after this weekend of $130 million, so it should be able to scrape together its production budget domestically at this rate. Then it'll be an issue of how it does overseas. I imagine it will do pretty well on DVD and Blu-ray.

As of right now, Tron stands at:

Domestic: $130,854,000
Foreign: $65,500,000
Worldwide: $196,354,000

Now the foreign numbers haven't been updated for almost the past two weeks, but it's not looking that great. It'll break even once all is said and done, but now it all depends on how DVD/BD sales are if Disney commits to a third outing. That and how much merchandise Disney is able to sell with the Tron logo on it too, that's why Cars is getting a sequel nobody asked for!

I'm sure Fox is pleased that Narnia will make over $100 million domestic once all is said and done (especially considering its lackluster opening weekend). However with the worldwide total barely going to be over $300 million, the chances of a fourth film are slim-to-none at this point.

I'm still confused to why Fox hasn't (and most likely never will) ramped up 127 Hours? The film's gotten glowing reviews all across the board, but even at this point two years ago, Slumdog Millionaire was in more than 500 theaters. They can't even do Boyle the favor? Christ, 127 Hours even cost less than Slumdog.

I thought 127 Hours was $18m while Slumdog was only $15m? (Budget)

Regardless, I'm not sure why they didn't try to push it a little more, maybe holding out for potential awards consideration.

True Grit was #1 on Friday, cool to see, plus the -4% drop is pretty badass. Huge hit for the Coen bros.

Apparently Nikki Finke is saying it's at 240 global against the 290 budget plus marketing costs. It will be interesting to see how much over those numbers Tron Legacy ends up.

With production costs as rediculous as they are it still amazes me that any movie can make a profit.

No, what's amazing is that Trons production budget was 170M and they spent another 120M on marketing.

Retarded.
