well that's good cuz I've been liking what Wright's (Not Edgar Wright of Spaced, Shaun of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, or Scott Pilgrim fame..it's another guy) been doing. Loved P&P and Atonement.

Both Wrights are very good British directors, love seeing both of them succeed (The Soloist aside....)

Indeed. While I personally like Edgar Wright more..cuz...well...he makes things that I especially like and makes damn good flicks. Joe Wright has made 2 fucking solid films that I've seen...I've yet to see The Soloist...but I'm game for this flick..

Thanks for pointing out that Edgar Wright and Joe Wright (not to be confused with Joe Johnston) are two different people.

So if her dad is Eric Bana, her name is Hanna Bana!
Seriously though, a big disconnect for me would be that I don't care how well trained she is, there is no fucking way that an 80-pound girl with zero muscle-tone can inflict any sort of damage on anyone in anyway whatsoever - I don't give a fuck if she knows "pressure points"!

I saw this at San Francisco Wondercon. I really liked it. The action sequences were surprisingly well done. Ronan and Bana each get an elaborately staged action sequence. Wright didn't fall into what many of these auteur turned action directors have been doing by keeping tight shots so we never seen any of the cool fight choreography. He keeps the camera loose and fluid so we can see the good stuff. The choreography takes into account Hanna's size and age, she's quick and takes her opponents by surprise with her size and age.
The score by the Chemical Brothers was fantastic. Was worried it would be all thumping electronic music, but it was pretty varied (plenty of thumping, though).
The performances were very good. Saoirse Ronan carried the film well. Blanchett was quite scary as the villain. Bana was awesome as well.
The plot is pretty basic, there's a bit of a mystery that the film slowly unfolds, but I doubt anyone will be surprised or shocked by the story. My one complaint is that Wright goes for style over substance in a few scenes. There's one big plot thread they left dangling. There was a Q&A after the film and Wright was asked about it, he told us what he thought happened, but the studio wouldn't let him put it in for fear of losing their PG-13 rating.
recommended.

The Chemical Brothers have been my favorite band for over a decade now... so, needless to say, I will be seeing this with great anticipation this weekend for the score alone. The fact that I'm a huge Edgar Wright fan is icing on the cake.

The trailers for this one initially seemed kind of campy, but with the talent involved I figured it would probably be one to follow. Glad it seems to have turned out okay and the reviews are looking good. I will probably check this out this weekend. I love a good action movie, especially ones with weird, yet well executed premises like this.

I'd rather watch 5 movies w/ that girl than 1 movie w/ Tony Jaa. She can at least act tons better than Jaa...not that that means much in action movie but she gets your attention...Jaa fails at that.

I liked it but wasn't blown away. The performances are decent (Eric Bana is fucking awesome) and it moved at a good pace, up until the last 20 minutes IMO. There are a few scenes that could be trimmed/streamlined with little ill effect and it would have really helped. The best moments in the movie are when Hanna is around everyday people, I just wish we got to see a bit more of that. Some of the stylistic choices worked great, others felt a little off to me - I'm sure I"m in a minority but I wasn't a huge fan of the Chemical Brothers score. A few scenes it worked well but some others near the end, I thought it was working against the movie, rather than for it.
The advanced buzz really had my expectations raised, so I'm not too surprised that it fell short of what I had hoped, but I'd easily recommend it if you're looking for a decent action picture with a bit more going on. 3.5/5

saw it tonight and loved it. Beautifully shot and the score is phenomenal. A movie that proves you can have character development and action all while not insulting your viewer....a rare animal indeed.

Thanks for the link. Here also are Orndorf (****1/2 - http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/49186/hanna/) and Jamie S. Rich's (**** - http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/49175/hanna/) reviews.
