I enjoyed it. I missed a couple of the other bigger films at a festival, but this one was good.

I didn't realize at the time that the Hedwig guy directed it.

It's pretty much just a well-written and acted movie about loss. Kidman and Eckhart were both good in it.

Although it can be a little sad, there are some funny moments in it, which is a positive. The film doesn't even last 90 minutes.

It's worth checking out.

Looks like this is playing at the Landmark. I'll have to go see it, as I love John Cameron Mitchell.

Is this from the guy that directed Shortbus & Hedwig?

6 inches forward, 5 inches back. I got a Rabbit Hole. Looks good, I'll see it when it hits us in LA.

I'm always up for some Nicole Kidman. Trailer looks especially nice and its getting solid reviews everywhere.

saw this last night. can not believe JCM directed it after Hedwig and Shortbus (both excellent films, but with no big stars and very unusual plots).

All actors and performances were great- but there is something about Diane West- after seeing her in Paul's therapy every Friday on "In Treatment", she is just not likeable to me anymore. Still, I highly recommend this film.

Any JCM fans- there is some evidence that the 47 year old actor/director will be taking a new version of Hedwig to Broadway this year.

Really? With him in the lead, or a new actor?

Hate the "Love with get you through" tagline. Ugh.

The storyline's been done before and some situations are very familiar, but it was still a decent film with some good performances. It was well directed and the emotional scenes weren't forced.

pretty incredible film. made my top 10 list for the year, no doubt.

i agree about the tagline. it's pretty cheese-ball. just know that the film is anything but cheesy - the performances are excellent and incredibly organic. there are some laughs, which is great that the story knows when to be optimistic, as subject matter is just downright depressing.

In my best Johnny Carson "I did not know that!". "Hedwig" was the best rock musical since, I don't know when. Just the most amazing soundtrack and performances. "Shortbus" was....eh....I don't know. A bit much sexually. Did you see that too?

Shortbus had some interesting performances but meandered as a movie. Hedwig, on the other hand, is a film I adore, and I actually saw it over 20 times in the theater.

Wow! You are my hero. I didn't get a chance to see it in the theater. An "arty" friend of mine in Nashville kept trying to get me to see it but I never got the chance. Like you, she had seen a bunch of times in the theater. I rented it from Netflix and bought it from Amazon 10 minutes into it. Fucking awesome. I also saw the local production when it came through D.C. twice.

Good for you but that's the most insane thing I've heard all year.

I basically spent a summer taking every friend I had to see it, and made new friends out of people who also went to see it regularly. What can I say, it was a cult cinema thing.

I also saw The Dark Knight 9 times in the theater (although some of that was because I knew nothing would match seeing it in IMAX so I should see it as often as I could, and I also worked at the theater where it was showing so I never paid for it) and Jurassic Park 6 or 7 times when that came out.

Finally got a chance to see this. Absolutely gut wrenching, but ultimately cathartic. Incredible performances all around, and Mitchell kept everything tasteful. Highly recommended, but go in knowing that it's a tough watch.

Top 10?

Still deciding. If it isn't it's definitely an honorable mention. :)

Why is that so insane? When I was a kid, I saw "Grease" that many times in the theater. Can't stand it now, still.

Anyway, caught this movie this morning and loved it. It is not heavy handed at all. Mitchell did an amazing job behind the camera. And every single actor in it turned in outstanding performances. Top 10 for me!

Speaking of Hedwig, did the DVD go OOP? I just checked Amazon and there's no listing for buying it new, and most of the privately sold copies are going for absurdly high prices.

Agreed. Live theater is a repeatable experience, more than a movie.
