I can't believe this thread went three pages and I'm the only one who was mad they included Suspiria. Maybe the opening is better than the rest of the film, but they called the rest of it "a snoozefest". What!?

I admit I haven't seen Temple of Doom in years since I prefer to watch 1 or 3. What I remember are the opener, the carts, the heart, and Kate Capshaw's squealing.

I guess the question would be whether the goal is movies that are at their best during the opening scene, or movies that are only good during their opening scene. The EW article seems to imply the latter.

To me this is Argento's masterpiece and in no way is it a "snoozefest".

and the same magazine that said it was one of the scariest movies of all time. I recently saw it on the big screen in a 35 mm print, and still creeped me out at times

Ninja Assassin. I still liked it ok, but nothing could've outdone the opening sequence.
