World mourns death of Enrique Palazzo

World-renouned singer Enrique Palazzo has died. The man who Roger Ebert once referred to as the "Laurence Olivier of song" passed away after suffering complications from pneumonia.

News of Palazzo's death was reported on Canadian radio station CJOB Sunday.

Palazzo's nephew told CJOB that the singer had been in the hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for 12 days after suffering multiple gunshot wounds, falling down 7 flights of stairs, chewing and choking on 37 pieces of gum at the same time and being hit by a bus, twice. With family and friends by his side at 5:30pm Sunday "he just fell asleep and passed away."

"He was truly a nice man. A very caring, naturally melodic guy in day-to-day life, not just because someone wrote something on paper for him. He was a very tender-hearted man. He was one of my best friends and I loved him dearly. I'll miss him greatly."

He was 84 years old.

Re: From the files of Police Squad: Leslie Nielsen, RIP.

Very sad news, but he had a great, interesting career. Very rare that an actor gets to totally reinvent himself in his 50s and have a career resurgence like he did.

Re: From the files of Police Squad: Leslie Nielsen, RIP.

Wow, am I the only one here who remembers "Swamp Fox"? It was a Disney miniseries that ran on "The Wonderful World of Disney" in 1960-61. IMDB says it was eight episodes. It starred Nielsen as Revolutionary War guerrilla leader Francis Marion. We loved it as kids and ran around singing the theme song. ("Swamp Fox, Swamp Fox..." that's all I remember now.) There were some humorous scenes in it, including one where Nielsen and another guy were hiding from the Redcoats in a wagon of hay and the Redcoats stop the wagon and the other guy hiding in the hay (not Nielsen) starts sneezing, so the black sidekick driving the wagon starts sneezing to cover it up. A memory from 50 years ago.

Who knew that 20 years after that I'd be laughing at Nielsen in AIRPLANE! (1980)?

I also remember seeing him on the big screen in THE AMSTERDAM KILL (1978) with Robert Mitchum.

So he died from pneumonia? That's no way to go out. A parachute not opening... that's a way to die. Getting caught in the gears of a combine... having your nuts bit off by a Laplander, that's the way I wanna go!

Leslie will be missed.
I met Kennedy a couple years ago. "Active" wouldn't be the word I'd use. I half expected him to drop dead while in the process of signing my "Human Factor" DVD. He looks pretty rough and he has a hard time getting around, even with his walker.

Re: From the files of Police Squad: Leslie Nielsen, RIP.

This one is rough. I grew up with Airplane! and the Naked Gun movies, only to discover later that Neilsen had begun his career as a dramatic actor. I looked up his dramatic roles and to my surprise, liked them almost as much as the comedic ones. RIP Surely.

Yeah, he was psycho there.

In Nuts, didn't he try to rape Barbra Streisand?
