Better than Maximum Overdrive? Nope.

It's battle of the best quotes: "Honey, come over here sugar buns, this machine just called me an asshole!"

If Cat's Eye had kept the crazy sequence of the mom shooting at the cat with an uzi, I would probably lean towards that. But The Running Man and Maximum Overdrive are right there. But really, there should be a split because there's a lot of schisms in his works: the dark comedies, the serious sci-fi, and the horror sci-fi.

Well, it certainly has one of the best lines Arnold has ever said:

"I live to see you eat that contract, but I hope you leave enough room for my fist because I'm going to ram it into your stomach and break your goddamn spine!"

SHAWSHANK and CARRIE are my favorites...if we're not counting kubrick's version of THE SHINING

That'd be my pick as well. The Running Man and Maximum Overdrive are both fun, but Shawshank blows both of them out of the water.

"Shawshank blows both of them out of the water."

That is a very strong blow.

Have you ever actually read the original story? The movie bears very little resemblance to it. So if you're talking best "adaptation" it's actually one of the WORST.

For my money "Misery" is the best overall King movie and adaptation.

I couldn't care less how faithful or not the King adaptations are. Here are my favorites:

1.) The Shining
2.) The Shawshank Redemption
3.) Silver Bullet
4.) Creepshow/C2
5.) Stand By Me
6.) Christine
7.) Maximum Overdrive
8.) Misery
9.) Pet Semetary
10.) The Running Man
11.) The Dead Zone

The Dead Zone

Cronenberg rules!
FTW!

I think Running Man was the most prolific considering it foreshadowed reality TV.

Shawshank and Green Mile get my votes for best though

 The best Stephen King movie is assuredly not The Running Man, whether we're talking about adaptation or quality of a movie in general.

There hasn't been a Stephen King adaptation since 2007? Quite a drought, given the history.

(BTW, "Chinga (episode of The X-files)" was in 1998, not 1993)

Actually, Dolan's Cadillac hit dvd earlier this year. That was a short story from 1993's Nightmares and Dreamscapes.

Running Man was definitely one of the most fun.
Just about three percent faithful though. I liked both the book and the movie. For totally different reasons.
I used to think I really liked Maximum Overdrive, but I'll bet upon rewatching it it doesn't hold up for me.

The Running Man and the Shining are probably my top two. Never actually finished the Stand, couldnt commit. Creepshow and Stand By Me were great too. I had the 'comic' book version of Creepshow. I initially liked Shawshank but TBS's constant replaying it killed it for me. Christine was good too. Graveyard Shift was a horrible trainwreck.

That word prolific, I do not think it means what you think it means.

I think the word you're looking for is "prophetic."

Oops, my bad. King is a prolific writer while the Running Man is a prophetic film.
