I saw an article on deadline saying that theres an outside chance she might get a nod for this movie, as there are several "dramatic scenes" and it would be an excuse to nominate someone from a mainstream movie

The first half was great - the movie was moving at a good pace, was light and fun... then it just lost it's way. Josh Gad nearly ruins the whole damn thing with an OBNOXIOUS performance. The leads are charismatic and charming and the stuff about Jake being a pharmaceutical rep was great...but then it gets heavy handed and falls into a lot of cliches. OK but there was a lot of potential they pissed away.

I saw it last night, I thought it had its funny moments, my real complaint was it couldn't identify itself if its a romantic comedy or serious drama. The amount of nudity in the movie was very surprising.

I usually hate romantic comedies and I think of bad Katherine Heigl movies but this movie was not bad since Jake & Anne were in it (Judy Greer as a bonus!) and it had more depth than the average romcom plus it was based on a true story which I was not familiar with.


I paid $5.99 to rent the 1080p version from Directv since Netflix and Blockbuster did not have it and I got my moneys worth on a rainy Saturday night.

Yup, pretty much. Was kind of interested in the Drug rep stuff early since that's something that I've never seen explored in film or TV before. Let me tell you as someone who worked with drug reps in the late 90s and today that things have really changed in the past 15 years.

I thought it was interesting that this film was directed by Ed Zwick, since he directed About Last Night some 20-odd years ago. This really felt like almost the exact same movie, without the occasionally clever Mamet dialog.

Just saw it tonight. As mentioned above, the first portion of the film is quite likable indeed. I would even say the first 2/3 of the film were a lot of fun. The very first scene of the film gives us information about Hathaway that substantially foreshadows the dramatic turn that the film takes in its latter act and that transition is not really awkward at all, even throwing some scenes of additional comic relief in the midst of it (that included the already mentioned Gad nudity).

It is quite predictable how the film will end. The biggest problem is how the film finally gets there. The closing act is fairly rushed and heavily clichéd. The writing really phones it in, much to the detriment of what was otherwise a really fun, and occasionally touching, movie.

Oh, and the title of the film is awful. I wonder what idiot studio exec insisted on that. I wish they had just called it "The Salesman" or something like that.

Still, on a strict "thumbs up"/"thumbs down" rating system, I would have to give it only a marginally qualified .
