Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
Lucas needs to cut down on the kiddy promotional tie in shit, and also cut down on the CGI. CGI space battles and monsters, OK... but FFS, CGI offices, and tables, and chairs? give the actors SOMETHING tangible to work with and off of.

Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
No thanks. Really don't think I would even bother seeing them. So tired of all the changes with this vision and that vision. He uses that excuse to screw around with CGI just because he loves CGI.

Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
He should just do what fans have wanted since the early '90s -- film versions of Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy. If Hamill, Fisher and Ford are too old, do it animated.

go 100 years in the future, start fresh. |
Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
Weren't there some Star Wars comics a few years back that took place a hundred or so years in the future? I seem to recall a Skywalker decendant who took the life of a smuggler and only had rudimentary knowledge of the Force. I also recall the Sith having abandoned that "rule of two" nonsense and working as sort of a cult or hive mind.
I never got a chance to read them but the concept was interesting. |

So maybe this should be a separate thread. I don't know. I laughed when I read this bit this morning. But then I thought about it a little more and recalled that Lucasfilm recently demanded a popular Star Wars comic book published by Dark Horse and set 100 years or so in the future of the time line cease publication.
This is part of the story that's keeping my interest. Like Lucas saw all the potential for stories being done in those comics and decided he wanted them for himself. Also remember that Lucas forbade anything from being written in the prequel era for years and years too. I know we've heard the rumors for years and years (literally, decades), but this little bit of info about that comic line is really what's getting my attention this time. I'm definitely onboard if this is what they're doing. |

This concept that only Hamill, Fisher and Ford could play those characters always bothered me. They are as iconic as Sherlock Holmes, Superman and Batman and as iconic as any other character that has been used countless times over the span of time. These characters CAN be recast. It worked well for Star Trek, it could work here too. That's also why I hope Lucas lets up on the reins of any new sequels. His ideas are old and tired...he's out of touch with what the fans want and what works in current times. While speaking of Star Trek, the latest Star Trek movie pwned every prequel trilogy movie a thousand times over. The only things that worked well in the prequel trilogies were the segments in episode 3 that Spielberg handled. That's it. The first episode is a waste except for the Darth Maul segments (and the fact that Lucas killed off Maul not thinking the fans would want to see a new bad ass Darth for all three movies showed how out of touch he was. Forget Jar Jar...that by itself was enough to show he wasn't able to handle doing the new movies.) Episode 2 had it's moments, but nothing that great. Spielberg's touch on episode 3 made it better than it would have been with just Lucas. These are iconic characters like I said. I WANT to see other directors tackle it. If Star Trek can get different directors and producers taking their shot at the stories then why not in Star Wars? |

I don't even remember what the Thrawn Trilogy was about. Weird since I know a lot of SW fans who would chew my ear off about it.

It's fun to think about but I doubt even that would happen.

I admit I enjoyed the first book when I read it upon release. Then the second I felt was crap and I didn't even bother with the 3rd. I like the idea of Thrawn as one of the few (or only?) aliens serving in the Empire. I liked Mara Jade too. I was done with the books after Shadows of The Empire. ugh . . . That said, I don't see why LFL can't do some direct to DVD animated in the Clone Wars style adapting Heir To The Empire. Maybe condensed they'd be better. |
Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
Yeah, the old republic video games seem like they'd work ok as movies. Thrawn trilogy is/was an EU favorite because of Mara Jade. I think it's an OK trilogy, one of the better EU books but that's not saying much, probably wouldn't work well in movies.
I haven't read the darth bane books so I don't know how good they were. I might be interested in movies based on the legacy comics. |
Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
Man, I would love a CG Thrawn trilogy. I loved those books. Outside of a random book here or there, it was all downhill from there.
|
Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
CGI Shadows of the Empire with the original cast doing the voice overs already Lucas
|
Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
As soon as I saw clips of what they're doing with the CGI version of young Jeff Bridges as Clu in the new Tron Legacy, I wondered why Lucas couldn't do the same with Hamill, Fisher, and Ford is a photo-realistic animated film set just a few years after Return of the Jedi.
|
Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
Maybe because the young Jeff Bridges CGI doesn't look very good?

Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
I'm not saying I actually want to see then given what George Lucas is up to these days, but I always thought CG animated Star Wars sequels would be a way to go, if they had to focus on Luke, Han, and Leia. I imagined something less photorealistic and something more stylized, like cel shading, but it always seemed likely to me.

Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
They should give this series to the people that did the new Star Trek movie. I watched that and it was like watching Star Wars again. A sci-fi adventure that was fun and original... it can still be done. Probably not by Lucas and Co though.
|
Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
I'd be interested in seeing one more film done with the original cast. A clever one-picture epilogue tale that forces everyone to dust off their light sabers one last time. Maybe something in tone to "Unforgiven" in space. I'd go see that.
|
Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
A neat way to make the series come full circle is if the new trilogy is set at least one or two generations after the OT. The Rebel forces have grown corrupt from power and the remnants of the Empire come together to overthrow the new galactic government.

Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
I think this rumor is bullshit, but I beg Mr. Lucas not to do Episode 7,8,9! He already tainted the originals with the idiotic special edition changes, now we don't need to bring back Ford, Fisher and Hammil and at their age and put out another shitty trilogy of movies.
Lucas should just stick with the Clone War cartoon crap for kiddies and stay away from anything with Han, Luke and Leia. |
Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
I don't hate the prequels like some folks, but I did feel let down by them. Having said that, I'd go see sequels. I'm kind of a SW whore.

I just don't understand LFL's thinking. Just make some new films. Make them good. Tweak 'em and make the TV scripts they have ready to go. When that live action show was announced a lot of fans questioned whether it was monetarily feasible to do a weekly show and ta-da! It's not! Apparently. AICN had a ridiculous post on the whole subject today, complete with Harry having a near tantrum meltdown in his talkback. You know, I just looked at the AICN article this morning to see if I had missed anything and, well, I did. Seems he linked to a previous article on AICN where they discuss the rumor of the the 3-D conversions of the SW movies which Lucasfilm denied at the time, but we know are now in the works. I realize there's always rumors flying about Star Wars, but that little bit certainly made me a little more interested than I was already. |

After watching the trailer endlessly in an IMAX, yeah, it doesn't look too hot.

Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
Carrie Fisher looks terrible. She really hit the wall hard and Harrison Ford is just too old to an action hero

Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
I've loved Star Wars my entire life. I was very very heavily into it. But halfway through season one of the Clone Wars I finally got burnt out on it. I just can't take anymore. Maybe, just maybe I'd watch them again on Blu-ray. But these little extras are not getting any reaction out of me. Going back to theater in 3D? I won't be going. I have seen these movies so many times it is not even funny. I can quote every second of them. I just cannot muster any excitement at all. I've lost faith in them as well. Will they add even more new shots to the movies? Tweak special effects even more? Deleted scenes they've been holding back on purpose for all of this time? Milk it to death George.
It was a great run! But they stretched it to death. The novels just went on and on until it just wasn't Star Wars anymore. Episode 10, 11, & 12? The chance of totally ruining them are so high it's not even funny. Of course they'll go back and make 7, 8, & 9 later as if George planned this all from the beginning. Even after he dies and some successor takes over they'll act like this was always the plan / the dream. These films are so far off I am not even gonna worry about them right now. TV show? No characters from the movies except for Boba Fett possibly in his own series? TV budget? I'll have to see this to believe it and judge it then. I am not the least bit excited. Everything I have heard sounds terrible. The problem with it is that it wont be Star Wars-like enough. Generic sci-fi drama show that happens to be a Star Wars show. Star Wars ... Star Trek ... two huge sci-fi franchises. But they didn't leave much room for anyone else. For all of these years I thought something else would come out to take their place. Something new! A new sci-fi epic! But nope. Now we'll have more sequels to both franchises. Nothing else. No one else can even try since these two giants won't ever go away! Maybe it will all work out? All I know is that when I went to Skywalker Ranch so many years ago George Lucas was like everything. I thought he was the greatest. Now I'd like to take a dump on his front lawn. He sucks! In closing to all of these announcements ... I wish Onslaught would show up at Skywalker Ranch and after thrashing George Lucas say "The Dream is Dead!". (I hope some Marvel fans or players Of Marvel Vs. Capcom got this.) |
