Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
Some of the cut-scenes I've seen from the recent star wars video games look more badass than anything in the prequel trilogy. Why don't they do something in the vein?

Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
As already mentioned, 10 years ago I would have been all over this, but I don't know what to make of this "news."
If it's in the right hands, (i.e. someone other than George writing & directing) this could have potential. |

I just don't understand LFL's thinking. Just make some new films. Make them good. Tweak 'em and make the TV scripts they have ready to go. When that live action show was announced a lot of fans questioned whether it was monetarily feasible to do a weekly show and ta-da! It's not! Apparently. AICN had a ridiculous post on the whole subject today, complete with Harry having a near tantrum meltdown in his talkback. Hey folks, Harry here watching Garrett Gilbert pretty much destroy my will to watch Longhorn football as the Chris Simms clone continues to be a total clusterfuck. Anyway... While watching and tweeting, someone mentioned the below IESB story about a 3rd STAR WARS Trilogy, to be delivered after the 3D STAR WARS re-releases. This is not new. This has ALWAYS been George's plan. Remember last year at this time of the year? When George called it Malarky? Every source I have at Lucasfilm has continually stated that the plan is to do a third STAR WARS trilogy taking place after RETURN OF THE JEDI. But you have to realize - that talking about it, is going to make it miserable waiting for. It is DOWN THE ROAD. The only time it'll be truly exciting to talk about, is when sets officially get built, when Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford & Mark Hamill get signed to come back, and it is for real. Right now, it is just a plan. A far off plan - and plans can and do change, but it will happen when George is ready - We're all hoping that new directors will be brought in that are visionary directors. This will happen. BUT between now and then, you'll continue to hear people like Lucas, McCallum and Sansweet deny and call all such rumors as our right fabrications. That is standard Lucasfilm procedure. BECAUSE - until they're ready to announce, it does not exist. SO - I suppose it does not exist, but it will. PaulSC by HEADGEEK Oct 23rd, 2010 04:16:59 PM As someone that is responsible for the biggest breaks in STAR WARS security history - FUCK YOU. And the point of this story was to say it was a non-story, which basically means you missed the point, which is probably indicative of the majority of your life. |
Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
I seem to recall a rumor a few years back saying Lucas wanted to do a one-off sequel to Jedi and offered $50million to Ford who refused to ever play Han Solo again.
This is nothing new, just wild stories. |

If Lucas keeps his dirty hands off these movies I am on board. If he gets other directors to handle them, like Darabont or Abrams or even Spielberg, I will be all over this. If he's writing and directing again I could careless.

Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
If true I'll be as excited as I was for Episodes 2 and 3; I'll be there at the midnight showing but more so for the event than the movie.

Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
Not sure how I feel about this. Before the prequels were released, I'd have been very excited at this news. However, after the Prequels and Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull Lucas has really ruined any good faith I may have had with him.
I'd still be willing to give this a chance though, in a few different circumstances. If Lucas can somehow get Hamill, Fisher, and Ford back I'd be all over it. Of course, with the original cast involved there is the even greater chance that if Lucas was heavily involved in the writing and directing he would further rape my childhood. If they came back, I'd want Lucas as far away from the director's chair and as few writing contributions as possible. But obviously that isn't going to happen, so when they don't come back and Lucas insists on writing and directing, I might still be interested if they set the next trilogy far enough out. Also, Harry Knowles is such a giant tool. Maybe if Lucas casts him as the descendant of Jabba The Hutt and one of his human slaves he'll write a good review no matter how bad the new movies suck. |

I've made it through season one and it's good, real good. Probably because the guys working on the show have that passion that Lucas had 30 years ago and care about what they are crafting. I still can't say that I care about any of the characters, but since the show is in someone else's hands it has a quality and style to it that the PT lacked. It's worth giving a shot. |
Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
If you think of these new movies as regular sci-fi action movies, then it becomes less troubling. Don't attach whatever emotional thrill you got from the original movies at ages 6-16 and you'll be OK.
If I can consider watching Skyline, I can consider watching these. What I will not do is watch any of the first six movies in 3D. |
Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
Lucas needs to cut down on the kiddy promotional tie in shit, and also cut down on the CGI. CGI space battles and monsters, OK... but FFS, CGI offices, and tables, and chairs? give the actors SOMETHING tangible to work with and off of.

Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
No thanks. Really don't think I would even bother seeing them. So tired of all the changes with this vision and that vision. He uses that excuse to screw around with CGI just because he loves CGI.

Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
He should just do what fans have wanted since the early '90s -- film versions of Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy. If Hamill, Fisher and Ford are too old, do it animated.

go 100 years in the future, start fresh. |
Re: Star Wars SEQUELS Rumored!
Weren't there some Star Wars comics a few years back that took place a hundred or so years in the future? I seem to recall a Skywalker decendant who took the life of a smuggler and only had rudimentary knowledge of the Force. I also recall the Sith having abandoned that "rule of two" nonsense and working as sort of a cult or hive mind.
I never got a chance to read them but the concept was interesting. |

So maybe this should be a separate thread. I don't know. I laughed when I read this bit this morning. But then I thought about it a little more and recalled that Lucasfilm recently demanded a popular Star Wars comic book published by Dark Horse and set 100 years or so in the future of the time line cease publication.
This is part of the story that's keeping my interest. Like Lucas saw all the potential for stories being done in those comics and decided he wanted them for himself. Also remember that Lucas forbade anything from being written in the prequel era for years and years too. I know we've heard the rumors for years and years (literally, decades), but this little bit of info about that comic line is really what's getting my attention this time. I'm definitely onboard if this is what they're doing. |

This concept that only Hamill, Fisher and Ford could play those characters always bothered me. They are as iconic as Sherlock Holmes, Superman and Batman and as iconic as any other character that has been used countless times over the span of time. These characters CAN be recast. It worked well for Star Trek, it could work here too. That's also why I hope Lucas lets up on the reins of any new sequels. His ideas are old and tired...he's out of touch with what the fans want and what works in current times. While speaking of Star Trek, the latest Star Trek movie pwned every prequel trilogy movie a thousand times over. The only things that worked well in the prequel trilogies were the segments in episode 3 that Spielberg handled. That's it. The first episode is a waste except for the Darth Maul segments (and the fact that Lucas killed off Maul not thinking the fans would want to see a new bad ass Darth for all three movies showed how out of touch he was. Forget Jar Jar...that by itself was enough to show he wasn't able to handle doing the new movies.) Episode 2 had it's moments, but nothing that great. Spielberg's touch on episode 3 made it better than it would have been with just Lucas. These are iconic characters like I said. I WANT to see other directors tackle it. If Star Trek can get different directors and producers taking their shot at the stories then why not in Star Wars? |
