Uncharted: The Movie (2022, D: Fleischer) S: Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg
David O. Russell (Three Kings, The Fighter) has been set to write and direct Columbia Pictures' Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, an action-adventure based upon the bestselling PlayStation 3 game, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach, presidents of Columbia Pictures. The film will be produced by Avi Arad (Spider-Man), Charles Roven (The Dark Knight), Ari Arad, and Alex Gartner.
The story follows the adventures of treasure hunter Nathan Drake.
Commenting on the announcement, Tolmach said, "David is a tremendous choice to take on this film. He's equally adept at combining all the classic elements involved in this property: great character development, strong comedy, and amazing action sequences. He has a brilliant vision for this material and we know he will bring his original, unique voice to this adaptation."

Finally, how involved is Naughty Dog in the creation of the Uncharted movie and why isn’t Nolan North going to play Nathan Drake?
We do work relatively close with Arad Productions – for example, we get to see scripts, we consult on helping with background on our characters and the universe – so we do feel involved with the project. At the end of the day, making top-notch video games is our core discipline and what we’re good at; while on the flip side, Arad Productions, Columbia Pictures and everyone involved with the feature film are extremely skilled at what they do, so we absolutely trust them to make the right decisions to not only make great films, but to make a great UNCHARTED film.

Glad to see this is moving forward with Naughty Dog's input and that they've got a talented writer and director at the helm.
I'm still a little worried about the casting of Nathan Drake though. To me, the only casting choice is Nathan Fillion, but I'm concerned he won't get the part. I mean, not only does he look just like Drake, but he also sounds like him, right down to the sarcastic tone.
Interestingly enough, Fillion actually does want the part. He Tweeted asking for his fans to start an online petition/campaign.
Nolan North, who does the motion capture and voice acting for Nathan Drake apparently wants Hugh Jackman to play Drake. The article is about a year old, but it sounds like he's pretty sold on Jackman as Drake. Personally, I think this would be a mistake. I can't imagine Jackman in the role and successfully portraying the flawed, but human Drake, nor can I see him effectively delivering the one-liners and quips Drake is famous for.
Still, I'm looking forward to hearing details about the movie. The game itself is so cinematic that it only seems natural for a movie adaptation. And if more of the right people sign on, perhaps this will break the mold of awful video game film adaptations.

I could totally see Bruce Campbell as Sully. They'd just have to do some makeup work to make him look a little older, but there's a lot of similarities between Sully in Uncharted and Sam in Burn Notice.

I'm thinking that due to past history and the studio wanting DOR to be comfortable with his leading man, Mark Wahlberg will be Drake.

Nathan Fillion really is the only choice for Drake. Make George Wendt Sully and Kirsten Bell can be the chick. Sold.

Nathan Fillion Begins Twitter Campaign to Play Nathan Drake in UNCHARTED: DRAKE’S FORTUNE
I'd rather have Nolan North, Emily Rose, and Richard McGonagle as the lead trio. Howver, I could definitely live with Nathan Fillion and Bruce Campbell as Drake and Sully.

Fillion is not bankable enough for them to choose him.
He's still the best choice, however.

The other problem, as I see it, though is that while Nolan North and Emily Rose look like Drake and Elena, Richard McGonagle looks nothing like Sully.

I had no clue what this whole thing even was. This is clearly what we need, more stupid video game to movie crossovers!

I think it would be very interesting if a studio backed the original voice actors in the live action roles. I think the possibility of that happening though are slim to none. I just can't see a studio putting so much money into an Uncharted movie and then casting virtual unknowns in the lead roles.
The other problem, as I see it, though is that while Nolan North and Emily Rose look like Drake and Elena, Richard McGonagle looks nothing like Sully.

As for Richard McGonagle, slap a wig and fake moustache on him and you got Sully.

It's actually one of the better games of the decade and is known for it's storytelling and characters. The second game plays more like a movie than a game.

Yeah, if the game cast is not used, Bruce Campbell must be Sully. But he better have a thing for mojitos. You know, for us Burn Notice fans.

I would definitely pay to see a Uncharted movie starring Nathon Fillion and Bruce Campbell, written and directed by David O. Russell.
Please, someone at the studio: Make it happen.

I know there is a lot of Fillion hate here but he is the perfect choice. And the game creators themselves said if there was ever a movie they wanted Bruce Campbell to be Sully.
