So...you buy the rights to make a movie...based on a video game...that isn't actually based on the video game at all? So you're really buying the NAME of the video game and the characters? Because you couldn't think up your own? I don't understand what the fuck is going on with this project.

I just hope they're not forced to crosspromote the movie with the next game.

While I WILL agree that Kubrick's Shining differs greatly from King's, I don't agree with your comparison. At least there the basic plot structure was the same (guy takes family to hotel and goes crazy while stuck there over the winter).
This sounds like they won't even use the plot from the video game at all. Which makes me wonder why they're calling it "Uncharted" in the first place.

Especially since they seem to be alienating anyone who actually would recognize the brand. I mean, it's a popular game but I don't think it has any mainstream recognition at all.

Well this sounds freaking dumb. Some updates on the movie.
"While the video game centers on Nate Drake (a descendant of Sir Francis Drake) and his quest to find lost treasure on an island far from civilization, Russell plans on expanding the movie to include Drake's extended family -- and put them in fraught, globetrotting situations with some of the world's most influential people.
"This idea really turns me on that there's a family that's a force to be reckoned with in the world of international art and antiquities ... [a family] that deals with heads of state and heads of museums and metes out justice," he said."
Why does he have to introduce a family into it? I had high hopes for this film early on before mark wahlberg was cast and most were thinking nathan fillion would star. But Mark Wahlberg is miscast. He cant deliver the funny quips like the character did in the game. Nathan Fillion would of been perfect.
The whole family aspect sounds horrible.

I thought this would have been much better casting, except for their casting of Sully . . .

Olivia Wilde could definitely pull off Chloe. Claudia Black (who voiced Chloe) would've been good too. Why did they include Laurie Metcalf though? Is that some sort of inside joke?
And I can't believe I didn't see Tim Roth as Flynn. That's a great call there.

This movie was good as an idea but every time they work on making it a reality they just fuck it up more and more.

Don't get your hopes up too much. All they said is that stuff's not confirmed yet, and if it isn't Wahlberg it could be someone just as wrong.

I saw the 44 second video before and think people are making way more of it than it is. However, 28 seconds into the second video and I have to ask... The second video is a joke, right? Cos the whole comment of "if there are any chicks watching, I appologize for the 'dude'" is kinda funny.

Re: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (David O. Russell to Write/Direct)
Well saddly this guy I dont think has ever read a discription of what Uncharted games are about or seen the game based on this anwser to IGN.
IGN: Of all the video game movies, why was Uncharted the one for you?
David O. Russell: Because it's centred around a family, and I like the combination of criminals and truth. These guys they're tough but they're working on this crazy case, and they can't do it without truth. I think that's cool
This movie is sadly going to suck.
