It's a toss up between Rush and Bale, the others didn't even come close.

I agree with you regarding the two front-runners, but the others are still very good and could potentially be dark horses.

True enough.

I'm anticipating -
G. Rush
C. Bale
M. Ruffalo
J. Renner
A. Garfield

Thinking, though unlikely, Douglas could take one of the spots.

I think Best Actor is the safest bet. The only real surprise in the last decade was Adrien Brody in The Pianist.

Wall Street Part 2... yes that movie.

Christian Bale is light years ahead of the competition, not just because of his performance but because he's light years ahead of them acting-wise.

I hope Mark Wahlberg wins Best Actor just so in his speech he can say "I won this award! Not you. Not You. and Not you."

And then "Say hi to your mother for me" as he walks off?

Was he only a supporting character in that movie? Haven't seen it yet so I wasn't sure which Douglas you meant. He was effin amazing in "Solitary Man".

Didn't Douglas get a Best Actor nomination for it at the Golden Globes? Or was that supporting?

Daytripper, Douglas' role was considered supporting, which can be another word for "second-billed."

Yep, top billing. Well, "side" billing. For those who have seen it, how much was Douglas in the film? Didn't get a chance to see it but will rent.

Yes. The speech was a little scatter-shot, but (considering that she claims she did not prepare anything) she certainly came off well.

All this Natalie Portman love in the media is kinda weird to me. I've liked her for a long time and had always been go to answer when asked who was my celebrity crush. Maybe this is what it's like to follow an indie band for years and then see them go mainstream?

throwing a spanner in the works, the PGA --the first, and arguably one of the most important guilds-- went for The King's Speech over The Social Network.

wait what? She's been "mainstream" for a while now. Star Wars for one really put her out there. V for Vendetta as well.

You know, I was thinking that TKS might be the frontrunner for the SAG award that goes to the cast. I still think Fincher will take Best Director, but we could see a split where TKS wins Best Picture if it gets enough support from some key branches like the actors. I don't think it's the most likely outcome, but it's certainly possible.

Re: 2010 Oscar buzz/predictions

TKS had better acting than TSN so it certainly is deserving if thats what they're actually voting on.

TSN was a better movie, though.

That said, it really is a toss up for the Best Picture oscar at this point.

The SAG could very likely go with The Fighter. The Social Network is strongest in the DGA and WGA fields, but I'd thought it had PGA in the bag, too -- a critically revered film representing smart studio money spent in that department, but also a film that made a lot of its own money, which at the end of the day justifies all 'producing' of film. So we'll see. The editors could go with Inception while the Cinematographers choose True Grit or Black Swan.

Or, it could be back to business as usual, who knows.
