25/8 (Craven, 2009)

A.K.A. Bug. I'm not sure either title is a winner. IMDB synopsis:
A serial killer returns to his hometown to stalk seven children who share the same birthday as the date he was allegedly put to rest.
Don't bother checking out the cast page, you won't recognize anybody. An interview with Craven about the film, from Bloody-Disgusting.

I'm not really a fan of the title. Being a horror fan, I'm sure I'll see it.

It sounds like it could be good. I think The People Under the Stairs is his most underrated movie, and one of my favorites of his.

I like the fact that he's using a pretty much completely unknown cast and not all the pretty faces from the WB.

Happy about Craven. Kind of 'blah' about seeing a teen horror/suspense movie. Hopefully it has something neat to offer.

The cool thing about Craven - when he does something new and different, it's usually a real joy. He has his 'in between' movies. But he usually seems to stick to new, unused stories to tell. I'm not going to waste my time looking through his filmography to defend my point. Just look at it.

I liked Red Eye and was one of the few that got a kick out of Cursed. I'm down for this.

My Soul to Take in "Fake 3D" (Craven, 2010)

Nobody ever created a thread for this film that's been sitting on Rogue's shelf for the past two years, so why not do it on its release date?

Brian Orndorf posted his review on DVD Talk earlier today located here.

I saw it at a screening last night and I could easily title it the worst film I've seen up to this point in 2010. A confusing, meddling "slasher" film with some of the worst acting and dialogue I've encountered this side of a Friedberg-Seltzer picture.

"I'm going to give him a ten."
"Make it twenty."

I honestly still have no idea what I watched last night.

What made it worse is that I got to endure a two-hour headache as the screening was for that of the 3D up-convert. After Piranha 3D and now this, I will never see a 3D up-convert under any circumstances again. I could've just taken my 3D glasses off and noticed no difference.

I love this line from Brian's review:

"My Soul to Take" is the work of a lunatic using his own feces to outline an uncomfortably abstract tale of ridiculous possession.

This had a 0% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes when I checked.

I'm sure Armond White will come along to give it a positive review. Remember, "Resident Evil: Afterlife" was better than "Avatar" and "Inception."

Did Craven really direct this?

Given his output over the last 15 years, does it really surprise you?

Love that line too.

When I read about the film in Horrorhound, I was interested. When I finally got around to seeing the trailer, that sort of went away.

I'd be down to see this if someone else paid for my ticket

Re: My Soul to Take in "Fake 3D" (Craven, 2010)

I was considering seeing this but with these kind of reviews and the 3D shtick I'm going to just wait to netflix the Blu-ray. I honestly cannot fathom how this movie can possibly be as bad it sounds. Then again, the trailers did make it look awful...

I'm just curious as a Wes Craven fan to see what he's come up with but my expectations have definitely plummeted.

Re: My Soul to Take in "Fake 3D" (Craven, 2010)

I was semi-interested in seeing this, but my local theater is only showing the 3-D version and at a start time that's no good for me. If they eventually get the 2-D print, I still might check it out.

Interesting. I haven't seen his critique yet, but I'm kind of surprised he gave it such a rave review.

There was one created waaaay back when the film had a different title (25/8), but even then, there was very little interest in the film from board members.

Re: My Soul to Take in "Fake 3D" (Craven, 2010)

Got back from seeing a Matinee of this. Oddly enough I don't rubberneck when I see car accidents off the freeway, but I went to see this anyway.

Emily Meade is the only good thing I can say about the film.

It's so messy and confusing. It's like Wes wanted a Coming Of Age film, but also wanted to slather NOES with down-syndrome all over it.

The flurry of explanations in the finale just had me scratching my head and I'm still trying to piece it all together.

She's got a huge forehead and her eyes are too close together. Now if she was in my bed, I wouldn't kick her out; however I'd rather go for Zena Grey (even if she has that old woman crazy curly hair thing going on in this movie).

Re: My Soul to Take in "Fake 3D" (Craven, 2010)

An unexpected sick day from work led me to catch this one today. This is literally the last day it's playing at my local theater.

Jesus, this was fucking god-awful. Terrible dialogue, poor acting and a story that didn't make a lick of sense, just like everyone else here has said. Between this and Cursed, I'm really skeptical about any future efforts from Craven.

Re: My Soul to Take in "Fake 3D" (Craven, 2010)

My gf and I watched this the other night.

As a slasher fan, I felt it started off with some great promise. Dude goes on a killing spree, he's possessed, escapes... then years later the local kids hold a ritual of sorts in the woods, he reappears and starts to kill again. The dude looked creepy as hell.

But right after all the opening promise, it went to immediate shit. I seriously got lost right after the great opening and couldn't figure out what the hell it was about. All that psycholoigcal teen-soul-Condor crap was mind-bogglingly bad. I actually thought Wes was going to make something worth a watch, at least for 12 minutes.

I don't get how anyone saw this in 3D. The movie was so dark the effect would be lost completely.
