Avatar Extended ... 8 minutes?

OFN, yes...

Maybe I sound lame for saying this, but I had strongly hoped that Avatar had been the victim of interference the same way Kingdom of Heaven had. Like many people, i found Avatar visually pleasing but unnecessarily rote. Why they couldn't explain that these people use built-in USB cables to plug into a biological database is beyond me (instead of using the mystical route and looking insane to ppl who likely would have understood the usb route -_-)...except then the story wouldn't happen the way it did.

I'm getting off topic. Anyway, I was really hoping that the blandness was attributable to stuff being cut out, but from what I just read the only additions will be 'more creatures' and 'more action'. So, I guess it's just more of the same and characters in this 3d film will remain flat..........

I suppose I was throwing this out to see if anyone else was disappointed or had the same hopes that i did.

Re: Avatar Extended ... 8 minutes?

ah.. my search for avatar on the forums found me a bunch of threads, but the only one with avatar in the title was about the blu-ray disc. Thanks, I guess.

Re: Avatar Extended ... 8 minutes?

I actually liked the new footage that was integrated back into the recent re-release of Avatar: the extended cut.

i just double-checked... using the drop-down search for avatar i still only found the blu-ray one I mentioned and (now) my own thread in the first 25 ..... I didn't bother going through 491 results because of the number of general movie discussion threads that were returned when I searched. I could screen-cap if you like.....

anyway, I guess we can let this thread die.............

Do you search for Avatar threads daily just so you can thread crap? Fucking pitiful.

I just think that Avatar was (is) the biggest joke to be played on the most people at one time that I may have ever seen. And I find it even more amusing now that it's being perpetuated, ad infintum, it seems. Actually, it alternates between amusement and disgust.

That people are buying it yet again already would qualify for the bolded words in your comment...oh, and the ignore button could be something you'd want to try out.
I'm not really here to thread crap, but boy did I hate this movie.

I figured you came into the thread to talk about how you were once a director, or had a good/bad experience banging one of the blue girls.

Actually it would be award winning director, and he would have banged multiple blue girls, each of which paid him cash for the amazing experience that is lemmy. And then he bit off someones nose for looking at him wrong.

Re: Avatar Extended ... 8 minutes?

I agree pretty much with the OP, except for the USB thing. I thought it was explained just fine.

As someone who's been a James Cameron fan since seeing the first Terminator as a kid, I'm greatly disappointed in where his career seems to be headed. I think he's become a George Lucas-esque guy, and his interests have veered from the storytelling to the tech. Now he's busy hawking cameras and using his high-profile name to trash-talk movies that don't use his proprietary 3D system. Really annoying. Also it looks like he's gonna milk this Avatar thing to the nth degree. Less than a year from the original release we get the 8-minute extended release?? WTF is that? And he's making the sequel? Ugh. I'd rather he made a sequel to True Lies or something cool rather than trying to mythologize and franchise what is arguably his worst film.

RE: the usb thing.. it was explained to the audience perfectly well. What I meant to say was that the science team did not explain it to the corporate/military side in such clear, logical, verifiable terms.. instead they just said the Navi have a spiritual connection to the tree. That may be true as well, and the corp/military guys were undeniably 1-dimensional bad guys, but...seriously.........why would you dodge using a perfectly rationale explanation and instead fall into the movie cliche where one side says the truth in a weird way and the others look on them as tree-hugging morons?

Oh. Right. because it advances the plot (easily, rather than believably). I once read someone say that horror films rely on stupid people doing unfathomable things to advance the story. it's mostly true, even in more or less entertaining films like 28 weeks later. What genius thought taking everyone out of their perfectly securable apartments and cramming them into one room was the best way to prevent an outbreak of a highly infectious disease? The writer, coz he needed an outbreak.

An extension of that is someone in a tv show or movie being That Douche. You know, That Douche who is clearly the most wrong person doing the most wrong thing and is there just to provide reason for the Protagonist to do something, but is utterly unbelievable. Oh, the Protag doesn't want to use violence, but he only will if he has no choice. well.. crap, in normal situations that wouldn't happen...what do we do? We write in That Douche..
