There's a lot of shitty, graphics intense movies that don't do as well though. Maybe the world just digs Milla Jovovich?

The filmmakers give us little glimpses of events during the apocalypse. And they leave a lot up to the audience to think about. The protagonist is a fearless, indestructible bad-ass. So the horror elements come off as extremly fun.
Plus, they're very fast paced and fly by so fast that you can't really hate them (yea ... I know ... lots of you guys are going to say that you hate them).

The Social Network's 2nd Monday was actually a bit higher than the first one, which doesn't happen too often. Obviously the strong word of mouth is certainly working. I'm thinking this will have another 30+% drop again this weekend.

Monday was a holiday (I had it off, gotta love banks) for some people, so drops across the board were lower than normal. I wouldn't read into it too much.
