Feel Good movies, I need a few choices.

A friend asked me for some feel good movies to help cheer up a friend.
I gave her my list now What are yours.
Also include why you think it's a feel good movie, don't just make a list of films.

Amelie (something about the thematic element of finding love...just overcomes me strongly by the visuals presented)

Re: Feel Good movies, I need a few choices.

Love Actually - It's every chick flick rolled into one and is surprisingly watchable
Kill Bill Vol 2 - ending put a smile on the face
Little Miss Sunshine - upbeat and largely optimistic for the full runtime, plus something about supportive families works for me
Pixar - Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc, Up -- not my favorites but are oddly uplifting
Nostalgia works pretty well too (I can pop on just about any movie from childhood (Princess Bride, Goonies, Beetlejuice, Terminator 2, etc; )) and immediately feel better.

Searching For Bobby Fischer - Based on a true story about a young chess prodigy Josh Waitzkin. Just a wonderful movie and never get tired watching it.

Re: Feel Good movies, I need a few choices.

It really depends on what part of my mood is deficient. For instance, if I feel kind of lethargic and I need to watch something kinetic, I love a good Bond movie (Goldfinger never disappoints). Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is lighthearted and fun. I love the by-play between Newman and Redford throughout, though there's that heartbreaking ending that may not set well with everyone.

My "sick day" comfort movie is Batman. I remember many a day curling up on the couch out in the living room and watching the VHS copy I got for my birthday in 1989 (and still own), waiting for a fever to break or the aches to subside. I can just get kind of transfixed on the movie and sometimes I forget how uncomfortable I am.

On a bleak, dreary day if I just want the sense of having "company," Lost in Translation and Sideways are both great. The former lets me sort of hang out with Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson in Tokyo; the latter lets me romp around sunny California's wine country with Thomas Haden Church and Paul Giammati.

Like I said, each of these speaks to a different part of me. They're my go-to movies for those purposes, and I'm sure I've got others.

Regarding Henry - "I remember gray carpet. I wanna go home"

(and whoa -- looking it up just now on IMDB, it was written by JJ Abrams. never knew that)

Yup...it's cheesy and not historically accurate but it seems almost impossible to not be at least a little inspired by that movie.

ON THE TOWN
SINGIN' IN THE RAIN
THE BAND WAGON

Classic musicals. You can't get any more "feel-good" than that.

The Last American Virgin -- saw this for the first time last night (well, most of it -- I had to go to bed before the end). Fits the bill perfectly: a fluffy, light teenage sex comedy.

Maybe it's because I had vague memories of enjoying it as a kid, but I caught Pollyanna on TCM this week and I dug it again as an adult.
