Cliffhanger -- remake (D: Ana Lily Amirpour)

Taken from here

StudioCanal has announced that it will be teaming with Neal Moritz's L.A.-based Original Films to reboot 1993's Cliffhanger, the action adventure thriller directed by Renny Harlin and starring Sylvester Stallone.

Variety says the new version will center on a group of young climbers. "Just as they rebooted 'Star Trek,' we're going to do the same with 'Cliffhanger,'" said Moritz, who will produce. Unlike the original, where Italy stood in for the Colorado Rockies, the new redo looks set to feature multiple cliff-face locations.

Moritz (Fast & Furious) and StudioCanal are looking to attach a screenwriter for a 2010 shoot.

Moritz is already producing an $80 million-plus remake of Escape from New York for Warner Bros.-New Line and StudioCanal. And Universal and StudioCanal are co-financing the Moritz-produced narrative remake of documentary The Complete History of My Sexual Failures, with Jay Roach attached to direct.
WTF? Do we really need a reboot of Cliffhanger, and why call it a reboot? Cliffhanger was one movie. Are they planning on making a franchise out of this?

They're basically taking some generic "climbing" script, changing the title, and slapping the term "reboot" on it because that's the current rage.

That's a strange marketing angle.

This just in: Uwe Boll is doing a "reboot" of THE EXPENDABLES and hiring a cast of hopefuls to play young Stallone, young Jason Statham, young Dolph Lundgren, young Mickey Rourke, and young Jet Li. He hopes to get it into theaters before Stallone's film. Boll's film will have something Stallone's film won't: Kristanna Loken, Michelle Rodriguez, and Tara Reid as "the Professor."

I love how the company is called "Original Films."

And I'm sick of the term "reboot" too.

sounds like "Vertical Limit" with Robin Tunney and Chris O'Donnell which seemed like a younger rip-off of CH.

That actually wasn't a terrible movie. It helped that Tunney was ridiculously cute in that flick.

This thing has Direct-to-DVD written all over it.

...Centering "on a group of young climbers"? No thanks...

Vertical limit was awesome and directed by a great action director - martin campbell - who has actually been a good rebooter director with goldeneye, zorro and casino royale

re: Cliffhanger -- remake (D: Ana Lily Amirpour)

Goldeneye wasn't a reboot. It was revitalizing to the series, but it's not a reboot in the way that Casino Royale and Batman Begins were.

And isn't a "reboot" of one film generally called a "remake"?

Yeah, Goldeneye kept the continuity brought by the past films. And I also agree, "reboot" is a remake of a franchise as opposed to a "remake" of a single film.

Okay, is this real or just a leftover April Fools article? It just doesn't seem like anything anyone would say and manage to keep a straight face while saying it.

Not Again..."Cliffhanger getting re-boot"

From IGN....http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/05/...tting-a-reboot

Cliffhanger is Getting a Reboot

A reboot of 1993's mega-actioner Cliffhanger - which starred Sylvester Stallone, John Lithgow and Michael Rooker - is in the works.

Producer Neal Moritz and StudioCanal are moving forward with the project, with a script to be written by Joe Gazzam (who sold a spec script, Shadow Run, to Sony a few months back). No domestic distributor is currently in place.

The original, directed by Renny Harlin, starred Stallone as a mountain climber who tries to thwart a team of mercenaries from stealing money from a downed U.S. Treasury plane in the Rocky Mountains.

Sorry but this is getting a bit old.....Rehashing movies as fast as re-issuing BR remasters.

Just wanted to express my love for Cliffhanger. Nothing will come close to that opening scene. I need to watch the original again soon...

Re: Not Again..."Cliffhanger getting re-boot"

Does remaking a single film count as a "re-boot"? I think that's more of a "remake".

When I think "re-boot", I think of a series of films, not just one.

I wish there was a remake of "White Man's Burden" starring Keith David and David Keith.
