As soon as i read that Singer had not returned to production the first thing that came to mind was the blind item stories floating around about him. If even a fraction of them are true he is going be seeing shit hit fan in the near future. I get the feeling that Fox and other companies may already be creating some distance in case of major fall out.

Wow. This could be the end of Singer's career. I can't imagine a major studio giving him a lot of money again. Stranger things have happened, though.
His PTSD claim considering the rumors that have come out regarding his on-set behavior on all of his movies is particularly funny. I wonder if he's just trying to brace himself for the inevitable sexual harassment allegations that are bound to come out.

FOX should hire Cameron Crowe to finish the movie. He has the resume to do it.
He knows the rock music scene and covered many bands in the 70s and 80s with Rolling Stone.

I've heard this isn't the first movie where he would disappear for days. Wonder what's going on with him... drugs? Trying to prepare himself for the shitstorm coming his way regarding young boys?

I get the feeling he has gotten word that people are ready to come forward about his past antics. So he is seriously sweating it. He comes up with the idea to pretend to have serious health/mental issues, checks into some cushy rehab type place for a few months and it creates a safe environment where he can still keep in touch with his lawyers but be kept at arms length from the press and questions. Gives him a little more time to figure out a plan of action to try and keep a career, money and his ass out of prison. Gonna be interesting to see how it unfolds.

Reads just like a blind item.

Singer released a statement. He claims that one of his parents is sick and that’s why he needed time off. But FOX said no and canned him instead.
The director made the statement Monday evening through his attorney Andrew B. Brettler, several hours after Fox announced that he’d been terminated.
“‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is a passion project of mine,” Singer said. “With fewer than three weeks to shoot remaining, I asked Fox for some time off so I could return to the U.S. to deal with pressing health matters concerning one of my parents. This was a very taxing experience, which ultimately took a serious toll on my own health. Unfortunately, the studio was unwilling to accommodate me and terminated my services. This was not my decision and it was beyond my control.”
Singer also said that rumors that his departure was sparked by a dispute with Rami Malek, who portrays Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in the film, were untrue.
“While, at times, we did have creative differences on set, Rami and I successfully put those differences behind us and continued to work on the film together until just prior to Thanksgiving,” Singer said. “I wanted nothing more than to be able to finish this project and help honor the legacy of Queen, but Fox would not permit me to do so because I needed to temporarily put my health, and the health of my loved ones, first.”

So either way they’ll have to shut down production. I’d think they’d prefer to shut down on good terms over canning him and having to shut down to find someone to takeover. So definitely more to it than the sick parent story.

Sad to hear that Fox didn't have any tolerance for lost time. But that's how filmmaking works. You can't call in sick. When you have all of that stuff lined up, you're spending millions per day. And even more when you have to start trading days. All on, let's predict, a movie that may not turn a profit anyways. And while shooting, the director is supposed to be as irreplaceable as the cast. If you're a grip, you can call in sick. But not when you're the director.

So will this turn into (yet another) once-promising patched together Fox movie?

Hmmmmm, Fox fires Singer around the same time that Disney is about to buy Fox entertainment resources. Could this possibly mean that Singer might now be available when Disney/Marvel restarts the X-Men franchise?

The blind items are a sex fetish where he was blindfolded while fucking underage men which he believed put a degree of separation from him and any wrongdoing.
