The Tick's Patrick Warburton in "Rock Slyde"

Didn't see a thread for this one already; has anyone else seen this film? It was a real treat; I love Patrick Warburton's voice work (Joe Swanson on Family Guy, some Robot Chicken stuff... and a ton of movies), and I've been bummed that every time he tended to show up on screen it was always for some little bit part, like the end of Get Smart or in MIB 2. But here we have a full length feature film starring Patrick as a bumbling private eye... and I loved it.

I don't think it was in theaters, looks more like an independent film festival type deal, but you can learn a lot about it from the website, www.rockslydethemovie.com.

The style of humor is a bit dry and often corny, but if you "get it", you'll enjoy it. Andy Dick plays the bad guy, and he does a decent job; again, someone who often gets strange (and often disturbing) bit parts, given a full role was nice to see. And there are oodles of celebrity cameos; looks like the filmmakers and actors had fun bringing in friends of theirs for some funny moments. Jason Alexander, Lea Thompson, and Eric Roberts are a few of them, but there are others.

Anyways, thought I'd share that; got the DVD here and I've watched it a few times now, but most other people I've talked to haven't heard about it. If you're a fan of genre spoofs (like the classics, Naked Gun, Hot Shots, etc), then you'll probably enjoy this one.

I'm a big fan of Warburton - not so sure about this, though. Just seems off for some reason. It kinda has a feel like it was done by those Epic/Disaster/Vampire Movie movies. Still, I'd give it a viewing.

Family Guy's Patrick Warburton?!

Jesus that's cringe worthy. How about calling him Puddy? Or just about every other thing on his resume that is exponentially better than Family Guy!

Was this released like last year or something? Just wondering, b/c the OP seems to be about a year behind.

Re: The Tick's Patrick Warburton in "Rock Slyde"

This one is available on Netflix Instant Watch for anyone interested.

It's definitely a far cry from Epic Movie-type fodder, so you don't have to worry in that regard. The cast seems genuinely into it, and I don't remember there being (direct) pop culture references.

If you forget the famous faces, it comes off as something you might get if you had a bunch of kids watch The Big Sleep and then make their own movie. It's silly and frequently dumb, but there's a certain niceness and fun to it that makes you want to like it more.

Not that I'd give the movie a glowing recommendation -- I think I only rated it 2/5 -- but it's harmless enough that watching it for a few minutes to see if you 'get' the humor is worth a gamble.

Re: The Tick's Patrick Warburton in "Rock Slyde"

Never actually saw the Tick myself, I just knew him originally from Family Guy. And this is WAY better than the Epic Movie type flicks. This isn't another one of those "hey let's take the biggest blockbusters out there and make fun of them" films, but more of a movie that pokes fun at the detective/private eye genre itself. Kinda like what Austin Powers did to the secret agent genre. (Not an entirely accurate analogy there, but close.)

Clearly Seinfeld's Patrick Warburton, but the Tick is good enough.

Sounds like they couldn't get the rights for Sledge Hammer: The Movie.
