Worst Movie You've Seen In A Long Time ?

I just watched Exorcist The Beginning. Holy crap, is it garbage. I can't believe that this is the movie that they made because they didn't like the first version. Dominion is far better. The Beginning is way to "sci-fi" for an Exorcist movie. The original is an amazing movie. Even Exorcist 2 is better than The Beginning. Am I the only one that hates The Beginning ?

The Last Airbender is honestly the worst film I've seen in a theater in the last 5 years, and possibly the past decade...

I'm sure I'll get eye rolls for this, but I honestly hated Avatar. Went into it expecting to really like it, as I have all of Cameron's previous work. But I found the story incredibly derivative, most of the acting very wooden and mediocre, the dialogue laughably bad, the battle scenes ho-hum, the logic non-existent, and many of the characters stereotypical to the point of absurdity.

Transformers 2.

I had insomnia and unfortunately this piece of crap would not put me to sleep. Top 5 worst for me, might even be the worst.

Cop Out. It put the nail in the coffin for me being a Kevin Smith fan. The only thing good about it was that I picked up a used copy from Moviestop with trade in credit, watched the horrible movie, then traded it back to them for more than I originally got it for.

Re: Worst Movie You've Seen In A Long Time ?

Thanks to the Sundance Channel, I caught up with an actor I really like (Luke Treadaway), but the film itself is unbelievably bad. Originally titled <i>DOGGING</i>, it's title was changed to <i>PUBLIC SEX</i> for its U.S. showings.

From Sundance's site:

<i>Simon Ellis's debut feature is an unconventional romantic comedy following the saga of Dan (Luke Treadaway), an unemployed journalist who tries to make his name with an exposé about a decidedly British cultural phenomenon: "dogging" - public sex in grubby parking lots. Luckily, Dan's lascivious roomie (Richard Riddell) is the ideal tour guide to Newcastle's swinging car park nightlife, and soon Dan is trawling chatrooms and arranging hook-ups with "Horny Geordie Lass."</i>

Here's a quote from the London Times:

<i>"The British film industry sinks to new depths with the cynical sexploitation flick Dogging: A Love Story. Set against the backdrop of the dogging scene — doughy- buttocked strangers humping awkwardly in bottom-of-the-range Ford Mondeos in grubby suburban car parks — this is titillation for people who are too stupid to download porn from the internet. Set in a Newcastle that is knee-deep in vomit, scantily-clad slappers and idiots attempting to do freestyle raps, this is one of the most profoundly depressing films I have ever seen."</i>

Not even in the "so bad it's good" category .....

Frat Party

It's been showing a lot on Starz and Showtime/TMC lately, and the film is completely inept. It is kind of funny to see how many times the camera goes out of focus during the film, though.

Agreed. I love Big Loud CGI movies but this was bad. Transformers 2 was better than Avatar

I would have to say, "Mama Mia." I still can't get the sound of Pierce Brosnan's singing out of my head. And it took finally seeing "Doubt" to have any respect for Meryl Streep again.

Waking Life. Unless you enjoy listening to college students spout off what they've heard in their psychology and sociology classes for 2 hours, then this will suck. I know there's a "story" in there somewhere but the entire movie is just conversation after conversation, with new people for each conversation but they maintain the intense pretentiousness throughout the entire thing.

While it did win some awards, it was for the animation and not the story or anything else.

Same here. I couldn't wait for it to be over.

Recently, I saw two turds that have been getting a questionable amount of praise: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Piranha 3D.

 My vote. I gave up after 45 minutes, and I never give up on movies.

Why give up on Smith over Cop Out? He didn't write it and that aside, he has definitely grown as a director with Zack & Miri and Cop Out. Visually he's improving quite a bit.

Nine - Gave this a rental a while ago on the basis of a decent cast and the fact that I have liked a couple other musicals, like Moulin Rouge!.

But Nine was basically unwatchable, mainly because all the "songs" the film relied on were utterly, utterly, terrible pieces of trash with no redeeming musical qualities whatsoever. It was one of the few movies that I actually wanted to turn off 10 minutes in.

National Lampoon's Adam and Eve, watched it for a Sloan fix. What a flaming piece of unfunny, amateurish shit.

Neither movie takes itself seriously, that doesn't seem to vibe well with your movie collection to begin with. Add in the "cutesy" self-aware factor that Pilgrim has and revved up camp factor of Piranha and neither should have been a big surprise. Alas to each their own.

The Spirit. Watched that one this weekend, hoooooly SHIT it was fucking horrible.
But I restored balance by following it up last night with Bad Lieutenant:Port of Call New Orleans, which was outstanding.

These were all incredible bores for me...

Transformers 2
Duplicity
The Invention of Lying
Franklyn (thanks to Netflix streaming)

Avatar was ok. It wasn't as bad as Transfomers 2 IMO. I agree with the wooden acting and horrible dialogue. But I was still able to get through it without completely hating myself.

The Invention of Lying really was terribly terribly bad. I'm not sure why Gervais thinks he's going to transition into movie roles with tepid material like that. High concept is so 80's.

I ask because Nine is inspired by 8 1/2 which makes me wonder if the movie becomes better when viewed as a homage to Fellini...

No, I haven't seen 8 1/2, so I can't say if it would come off as a better film if you had seen it. All I know is that as a film standing on its own merits, it fails.

I'm ok with films that don't take themselves seriously, but I hated Pilgrim for the numerous reasons. Chiefly, those which you mentioned. As for Piranha, I'm almost always ok with a camp factor in my horror films, but it failed on too many levels to be fun for me.
