Was Edgar Wright influenced by Detroit Rock City?

This just popped into my head...I always loved DRC and feel it is a highly underrated film. Visually, it looks VERY similar to something Edgar Wright would make. Anyone else notice this and think maybe he patterned his style after this film?

Detroit Rock City was release in the UK on October 22, 1999.

The first season of Spaced premiered in the UK on September 24, 1999.

Wright's directorial style is pretty firmly established in that first season of Spaced, so while he may have watched Detroit Rock City later on, it probably didn't have a huge influence on his style.

^Thanks for the info, I had no idea what he had done before Shaun. Is Spaced worth checking out? And do you see the similarities between Wright's style and Detroit Rock City?

I wouldn't hold my breath on a Blu-ray release. It took years for it to come out on DVD in America.

No. He was more influenced by Tekken, Soul Calibur, and Marvel vs. Capcom.

Plus, I imagine the show was edited on SD video, so it would have to be retransfered and re-edited in HD before a Blu-ray release would be likely.

If you liked Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, then you definitely should get Spaced on DVD. The show is too good to wait for a Blu-ray that may never come.

And the DVD is absolutely packed with features, including a feature-length documentary and commentaries with special guests including Kevin Smith and Tarantino.

Yeah....it's the commentaries that make me excited. I in fact love the commentary w/ QT and EW more than the any other commentary cuz..it's all about action movies..barely about the Hot Fuzz the film itself.
