Re: favorite movie of 1939
Great thread, although it should probably be a poll.
I'll go with Stagecoach...the film that helped westerns return to mainstream releases for the next 30 years. |
Re: favorite movie of 1939
this is strange since i've been thinking about Young Mr. Lincoln, Dodge City and Phantom Creeps lately but i'll go with Lincoln.

Re: favorite movie of 1939
Oz, baby.
Though I also rather liked The Story of Alexander Graham Bell. |
Re: favorite movie of 1939
Either Beau Geste or Gunga Din. Man, they made some great action-adventure movies in the 30s.
|
Re: favorite movie of 1939
Impossible to choose.
I will say it's refreshing to see another person on this forum appreciate 'Only Angels Have Wings'. I'd probably go with that for 'favorite' |
Re: favorite movie of 1939
THE ROARING TWENTIES, directed by Raoul Walsh and starring James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart and the always underrated Paul Kelly. It was the first film produced by Broadway journalist Mark Hellinger, and it's about rival bootleggers in prohibition-era New York.

Re: favorite movie of 1939
Gunga Din, with the Sherlock Holmes film second.
