Re: Fincher or Nolan?
Both are directors whose projects become must-sees. Both are directors who have produced some of the hands-down best movies of the past 15 years (I count 6 absolute five-star masterpieces between them).

Re: Fincher or Nolan?
Nolan has yet to make a bad movie, yet has made 4-5 GREAT movies. Fincher has made one bad movie(Panic Room), and two great movies (Fight Club and Se7en), and Benjamin Button (which I personally couldn't finish).

Yeah I probably should have held off on doing this poll until the sugar high from Inception wore off. :) |
Re: Fincher or Nolan?
It's funny how you fail to mention Alien 3 yet others do mention it as part of his filmography. I don't..cuz he got fucked over by Fox so bad it was ridiculous.
I've no idea how you would consider Memento merely good. TDK was well directed. The Prestige and Memento, you can add in Inception as well if you want, are CN's best work. The moral play in The Prestige was awesome. |
Re: Fincher or Nolan?
I prefer Nolan. The movies he's directed so far have all been good. Granted he hasn't made as many as Fincher. I think that Fincher has made a few really good movies (Se7en, Fight Club, Zodiac) and the rest for me personally are just sort of alright. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was a huge let down for me and I really don't have that much interest in The Social Network. Its not to take anything away from his work I do think he has talent I just think Nolan has kept his quality up better so far at least.

Re: Fincher or Nolan?
If I had to choose one film out of the two that I could watch the most...it's a toss up between Fight Club and TDK. And...I think FC might win cuz it's hilarious as fuck and awesome overall as well..but...Nolan is the better director.

Re: Fincher or Nolan?
well it hard to choose them both but I like them both did direct in the movie and well I prefer to choose C. Nolan.

Re: Fincher or Nolan?
yeah...I don't think they've made masterpieces yet. Masterpiece is a word I rarely throw around. I'd love to see wtf they're masterpieces would be though.

Re: Fincher or Nolan?
Yeah, it wasn't a bad film; just recently saw it and I thought it had more surprises although I guess I was looking for more than there was.

Re: Fincher or Nolan?
Both are directors among the most exciting working today.
Nolan is great, but doesn't make very visceral films. Technically, both directors are impressive, but Fincher's films have that gut punch that Nolan's movies don't generally have. Fincher has made more bad movies that Nolan (Benjamin Button is a film a passionately hate, which I can't say about any Nolan's movies... Alien 3, is ok, but is the worst of the series and I do not view it as fondly as a lot of others seem to now looking back at it). Insomnia was forgettable, but nothing worse than that. In the end, I took my favorite of each director (The Prestige v. Zodiac). I really love the Prestige, but I think Zodiac ranks in the Top 5 of the last decade and is truly a masterpiece. Voted Fincher. |
Re: Fincher or Nolan?
I think Fincher is the better director right now (and shows more range), but think both are excellent.
