Speaking of Winona Ryder (who is always IMO just plain awful):

Keanu was just as awful if not moreso, comparatively, but she had a much larger and more pivotal role.

Correct, I couldn't fathom what Coppola saw in her that suggested she could handle the depths involved with both Mina Harker and Corleone's daughter.

Maybe not as Batman's voice, but I'd actually like to see such an entity cast in a movie.

Any American/British action movie of the last six years that doesn't have Jason Statham in the lead.

Any movie, TITANIC and after, that had Leonardo DiCaprio in it. (Although GANGS OF NEW YORK was ruined by two cases of miscasting: DiCaprio and Diaz.)

When I saw Dark Knight in the theater, I kept thinking of the 30 Rock episode where Alec Baldwin and Will Arnett are going to face off and Tiny Fey asks if they're going to have a "talking like this" contest.

It made me laugh at scenes I wasn't meant to.

Cameron Diaz in Gangs of NY. I still enjoy the movie because her shitty performance was off-set at least by a brilliant performance from Daniel Day-Lewis, but damn if that movie wouldn't be a whole lot better without her in it (actually any movie with Diaz where she is not putting cum in her hair is probably better off without her).

She did seem a bit old by Hollywood standards, but you could argue that her casting was more realistic. Native Americans of the 19th century spent a lot of time outdoors and did not have the benefit of modern skincare. Most of them (and a lot of European Americans as well) probably looked like raisins when they were 40.

Yes, Jason Statham is a much better actor than Leo. I don't know what Scorsese and Nolan were thinking in casting that clown. The Crank movies are clearly the masterpieces of this generation.

Agreed, she was miscast, but it didn't ruin the movie for me. Daniel Day Lewis and Leonardo DiCaprio made up for her shitty performance. Still a great movie in my opinion.

Oh come on. Getting a lot of sun doesn't make you look like a middle aged mom by the time you are in 20 something.

Sun damage takes 10 years to show up. Most girls these days grow up playing outdoors.

By your logic, girls in Brazil and Hawaii should all look like raisins by 30? They spend so much time on the beach, especially in Brazil in Rio(right near the equator, btw).

You glossed over the part where I said "modern skincare." That makes a HUGE difference. Go to rural China or Mongolia and look at the skin of 20-somethings and compare it with American (or Brazilian) beach bums.

McDonnell is only a few years older than Costner and was still well south of 40 when they shot the film. To say that her appearance "ruined" Dances With Wolves is simply silly.

I doubt he was referring to sun damage alone. Living in the wilderness, doing a lot of physical labor, being susceptible to disease, animals and other life threatening dangers, etc. I'm sure all of those things combined are enough to age a person.

If you look at pictures taken during the civil war era, no one was looking all that healthy.

I remember reading an interview with Costner where he said he wanted a woman with some lines on her face.

Does the movie ever even tell the audience how many years McDonnell's character had been with the Sioux before Costner meets her?
