Michael Clarke Duncan in Daredevil
not a movie but Jennifer Garner in Alias and Piper Perabo in Covert Affairs. Just don't buy women as tough characters....

Thanks for making up lies. I never said anything of the kind. It's the women they put in toughie roles on tv and in the movies that I just don't buy. They always seem to pick girly girl types and put them in tough character roles like soldiers. They really need to pick women that can pull off the tough kinds of roles. It's very rare that they do. The last I can think of is, kiddish as the show is, Lucy Lawless and Hudson Leick on Xena. Another one even further back would be Sandahl Bergman in Conan The Barbarian.

Again, thanks for the lies.

Do you even know what troll means ? I've never been a troll. Why do you think so ? Just because I have a different view than you and refuse to let people push me around ?

Re: Movies ruined by the miscasting of ONE role?

Thought I would have made a post in this thread, but maybe I made one in a thread similar to it.

Anyway, the two that always come to mind for me are:

1. Genevieve Bujold in Dead Ringers. She's not bad, but she's not nearly at Jeremy Irons' level, and I never bought her as the one thing that split the two brothers up. The rest of the film is so brilliant that I overlook it, but I think someone like Sigourney Weaver would have been much better for that role.

2. Meg Foster in They Live. She makes Roddy Piper look like Laurence Olivier with her dead-behind-the-eyes performance, and speaking of eyes, hers are so bloodshot throughout the film that the first time I saw it, I assumed there was going to be a twist where she turned out to be one of the aliens.

I'd buy your counterargument if your own words weren't the following:

Had you said, "I just don't buy women like Piper Perabo or Jennifer Garner as tough characters" it'd be a different story.

It's not your opinion, it's the way you present yourself and interact with others on this forum. Everybody on this forum has differing opinions about all sorts of things, otherwise there would be no discussion. But most posters treat others respectfully, whereas you always act like your opinion is correct, and others are wrong. You always find yourself getting into arguments with people on the forum and feel persecuted, but you might consider that you are part of the problem. Most of your posts come across antagonistically, so people will either engage you as such, or dismiss you entirely. Calling you a troll is actually a compliment, that you're cleverly stringing people along for a laugh. But if you're genuine and that socially inept, I feel sorry for you. You need to work on your people skills.

I said that. That's true. But I went on to explain exactly what I meant.

Afterwards, yes. But your initial post made it seem a different argument entirely.

Look, it's obviously our faults for not reading Spottedfeather's mind the first time and understanding exactly what he meant, despite that being entirely different than what he actually said. Why must we all spread so many lies?!

I think Gangs of New York is the opposite of the title of this thread "Movies that are saved because of one role.".
If it wasn't for DDL I wouldn't even bother watching it.

Yeah, despite all of his angry glaring, I thought Leo was just as underwhelming as Cameron.

Glen Campbell in True Grit.

Well, not ruined, but certainly seriously compromised.

I love Wayne's TG but it really pales in comparison to the detail and characterization of the Coen Bros. film. The book is so alive with the way the detail is established in there. The film plays a lot like book.

True. You never said they couldn't fight. Just that it makes you uncomfortable.

Okay you're not a troll, just incredibly simple minded with bad punctuation.

Not really. There are all kinds of elements in the Coen movie which aren't in the novel-the guy in the bearskin, the trio breaking up, etc. I like both films, but I don't really think the a lens brought a lot which was new to it. In fact, I believe that even the eyepatch came out of the first film and not the novel, didn't if?
