I just watched it again, and he is terrible. His performance doesn't make the film unwatchable, but someone else in the role would have elevated the film to another level.

Even if you feel that Pitt is terrible in IB, I would think he provided exactly the performance that QT wanted him to. Personally, I feel that IB's flaws run far deeper than Pitt's hammy performance.

It didn't ruin the movie but Cillian Murphy in Batman Begins as Scarecrow. Cran should have been someone with more gravity and creepiness like Malkovich or hell even Nic Cage would've been interesting.

Well, having watched the film once again, with someone that appreciated the acting choices he made as total parody, I've accepted it a little more, but still maintain it would've been a better film with a different actor...

I thought he was one of the best performances of the trilogy. He was very creepy and arrogant, and kept his shit together to not be over-the-top and noticed as the psychopath he is. He seemed like somebody that would pull the wings off of flies but present himself as a well behaved child around adults.

To this day I don't get the hate for Jake Lloyd. He is Sir Laurence Olivier compared to Hayden Christiansen.

Cillian Murphy was one of the highlights of Nolan's Batman trilogy.

Brad Pitt was exactly what the role called for in Inglourious Basterds (purposefully scene chewing and over the top).

Yeah, my opinion on this has changed in the past three years. Now he seems perfect for the role to me and his skill in making the character excruciating is evident. It's just that when BoB first came out, Friends was top of mind. Not fair to Schwimmer, but I found it jarring at the time.

I thought Cruise was great in the role and so did Anne Rice, even though she hated the idea at first.
After seeing the film her opinion changed. Brad Pitt's casting as Louis was good but his acting was questionable.
It doesn't help that Pitt admits he hated the film and was miserable that he could not get out of it.

Re: Movies ruined by the miscasting of ONE role?

Schwimmer was indeed an excellent choice for the part, although I do agree that the popularity of Friends made it a little tough for some to accept his character.

This is such an old thread and I probably already said this once in here already, but the first thing that comes to mind is Andie MacDowell in Four Weddings and a Funeral. Her role was not well-written to begin with, but MacDowell was a fairly dreadful choice.

Frankly, I have more than once been well less than thrilled with screenwriter Richard Curtis' ability to write female roles. Notting Hill is another poor writing effort. While I also think that Julia Roberts was poorly cast in that film, the problems had much more to do with the writing of her character.

She didn't ruin the movie, but Demi Moore was miscast in Mr. Brooks.

I still enjoy the movie, but Cameron Diaz is atrocious in Gangs of New York.

Damon Wayans in The Last Boy Scout. Still a pretty good movie, though. Even with the annoying villains.

However, I will say, it was certainly a lot more entertaining than I remember.
Her performance in that movie is twofold. The first half of the movie she sucks royally. But towards the latter half (after Matthew Modine has to extract the bullet from her) she seems to finally settle into the role. Which is odd because I'm sure the scenes were shot out of order like any other movie.

But, yeah, the movie is a whole heck of a lot of fun. Matthew Modine and Frank Langella steal the whole show.
