I'm going to wait a couple of weeks until The Expendables takes over #1, then I'll count. Bitches.

I know you say that tongue in cheek, but I really think the hype for this movie is beyond over the top.
For some reason I think this is going to be a big disappointment....God I hope I'm wrong (if the action is anything like Rambo 4, I'll be more than pleased).

Re: How many of IMDb's Top 250 have you seen?

After twofifty.org keeled over, I wrote my own Top 250 tracker. It took me around four years to work my way through the movies I hadn't seen -- and since it's a moving target, it was even trickier! -- but I hit the 250 mark in June. Strangely enough, Rain Man was the last one on the list for me. (El Secreto de Sus Ojos was #249...I was hardcore enough that I imported a DVD from Argentina to check that one off!) The only addition since then was Inception, and that obviously wasn't a problem to knock out.

The turnover on the 250 list seems to have slowed dramatically over the past few months, so it's not constantly churning titles in and out the way it used to.

WTH is THE CHANGELING doing on that list?

Edit: Unless it's the one from the early 1980s. In which case I'm good with it.

It's not. Just about anything Clint Eastwood touches is a lock for the IMDb 250, for whatever reason.

Re: How many of IMDb's Top 250 have you seen?

I only counted 55 movies out of that list that I've seen, the others I really have no desire to. My favorite genres are SciFi/Fantasy/Horror with a very light smattering of Action/Drama, I'm not real big on Westerns or War movies (except Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse Now, Sniper, etc.), I HATE musicals, and the only animated movies I ever cared about are the Final Fantasy films and Fantastic Planet. What the critics deem Classics rate exactly 0 to me (except for films like Alien, Blade Runner, etc.). I fully realize that I'm a minority/anomaly, but Oh well... -kd5-

Haven't seen some of that newer stuff (Toy Story 3, Kick Ass?), and there's quite a few in there I wish I hadn't (Pirates )

Nice to see Battle of Algiers stuck in there, essential viewing.

~85, perhaps a few more. The vast majority of the ones I haven't seen don't interest me.

I felt the same way several years ago. But since these movies are supposed to be "So Good", I just figured to watch them & judge for myself. Granted, there's been a LOT that I didn't care for when all was said and done, but (As a film-lover) I still don't mind the process of going through them.

I confess to being a Philistine when it comes to "film", as opposed to a cinephile, as so many clearly are here. I watch "movies" for entertainment and certain kinds of movies are very off-putting to me:
Spoiler:
I especially dislike the horror genre and "splatter movies" that have excessive or gratuitous violence. Both are exceedingly popular at DVD Talk.
With so many movies to choose from I see no need to force myself to watch a movie because it is supposed to be great art (or very popular). But I can see why a "film-lover" would want to experience as many of the well-respected movies as possible and the thousands of titles on DVD sure aids that goal.
