One of my favorite movies ever Return of the Living Dead. Re-animator, Day of the Dead and Argento's Phenomena up there on the list as well.

There were so many good movies from '85, but since I can only pick one I'm going to go with...

Same here. Arguably, it is my favorite movie of the 80s period.

Kind of a weak year, to be honest. The gun-to-my-head choice would probably be After Hours.

I wouldn't quite put it up there with Blade Runner, but, yes, it is visually stunning.

La Historia Oficial (The Official Story), with Blood Simple a close second.

I could have sworn that Better Off Dead was pre-1985.

Back to the Future is great but I have always been a fan of Brewster's Millions, Pryor and Candy made a good team.

Furthermore, if you consider all Best Picture winners from 1971-1990, I cannot think of another one that has faded into obscurity so substantially as Out of Africa. Ordinary People might be a distant second.

Wow , I just realized that I have the trifecta of horror represented..
Vampires. Zombies and werewolves. With cowboys and geeks thrown in.

1985 was a very good year for movies.

I have a lot of favorites from that year but the first that popped in my head was Highlander so I'll go with that.

Oh, I do. And fantastic choices wendersfan! And what a great year.

Beyond that, my other favorites that year are (besides the obvious choices.....and sorry, can't pick just one):

"Pee-Wee's Big Adventure"
"Out of Africa"
"Sweet Dreams"
"Das Boot"
"Prizzi's Honor"
"Into the Night"
"Agnes of God"
"Runaway Train"
"Desperately Seeking Susan"
"The Quiet Earth"

You're right. I forgot that the movie takes place in '85 but was released in '86.
