you mean the scene that's in every trailer? Is it any better as a whole or what?

I haven't watched the trailer, but looking at it now.. yeah, there's a little more to it than that.

That must be a direct cop from Dolemite.

Saw this one over the weekend. Oh christ, I haven't laughed this hard in I don't remember how long. Fans of blaxploitation flicks will eat this up. My only real complaints are that the guy who plays Buckhorn was overdoing it a bit too much, and the finale went way beyond where it needed to go, making it more of a joke that it shuld have been. But that gripe aside, this was a hilarious send-up of all those classic 70's films. Think Black Shampoo meets Truck Turner, or something like that.

I'd give it 88 out of 100.

For those in the New England area - incredible news! Coolidge is kicking off a midnight screening schedule beginning 11/13 for Black Dynamite. Sounds like the perfect showcase for a film like this.

It's a hollow as hell movie, as most spoofs are, but good god is it hilariously un-pc and awesome.

For some reason, the scene where Black Dynamite is staring at the boom mic near the beginning had me rolling. Everytime his theme song came on? Also awesome. Hell the entire movie is quality.

I agree with this. But prior to that, it sure was impossible to wipe the smile off my face.

"Then tell me who did it and I'll just leave a puddle."

BTW, Nicole Ari-Parker was listed in the cast, but I was never able to spot her---And she is quite easy to spot...

I'm not too much a fan of blaxploitation films or even parodies, but this looks good. I'll need to buy this on DVD too.
I'm glad to see Michael Jai White in a new movie. Salli Richardson looks fantastic too.

What's funny is that on FMC, they showed a movie called Trouble Man. I swear, BD lifted shit straight from that film. It's crazy seeing them somewhat side to side to compare and how much of Black Dynamite got it right (other than the over the top fight scene at the end).

Actually, I was expecting a LOT more nods/homages to more of the movies. The only clear-cut ones I noticed:

Superfly-The "8 Track Stereo in every room" line.
The Mack-Both of Dynamite's lines for "Stick himself" and his "Grown folks talking" are from this movie. The pimp-gathering scene is probably inspired from this too.
Dolemite-Boom mic shot lol
Human Tornado-Bullhorn talking in rhyme

And if you've got a quick eye, you can spot some stunt/shoot-out footage from Al Adamson's Dynamite Brothers during the big action montage.

Im debating about getting the blu ray or dvd. Since the look of the film is intentionally crappy, would this film really benefit from a hd transfer. Id like to save some money and pick up the dvd if i can.

The film was shot in 16mm, which is still (slightly) higher resolution than what a 1080p transfer would output and early reviews have raved about the transfer. The BD also has an exclusive 15-minute featurette.

I think Black Dynamite should team up with Hebrew Hammer.

This line was so awesome. Don't ruin it for yourself if you haven't seen the movie yet.

Spoiler:

Black Dynamite: Let me talk to the man in charge.
Black Panther:Sarcastically, I'm in charge.

Finally saw this. The first half or so is just incredible, hilarious stuff. But it went off the rails for me
Spoiler:
about the time of the Anaconda factory raid
and it never fully recovered. The tone was so pitch-perfect early on, though, and I was amazed how authentic the 70s look seemed.

Bit late to the party here, but I saw way more nods to specific blacksploitation movies than the four listed here. The pimp gathering, for one, is a direct homage to a sequence in WILLIE DYNAMITE (1974). Black Dynamite's martial arts yell or war cry (or whatever it's called) is a carbon copy of the one used by Jim Kelly in his movies. One line of dialogue that would've jumped out at me even if they hadn't alluded to it in the documentary is lifted wholesale from AVENGING DISCO GODFATHER, although Michael Jai White dials it back considerably here. There are many others I spotted (and many I probably missed); I think the ability to spot them depends heavily on how many of the originals one has seen.

"Suddenly, I'd like to leave your island."

I watched this for the umpteenth time this weekend, this time with commentary, and Sanders and White point out almost every film referenced. It's a great track for fans of the film.

Good to know. I'm hoping to listen to it later this afternoon. Nice to know they might fill in some of the blanks for me. ;)

I believe the stock footage for Kung Fu Island, namely the explosions are lifted from the Missing in Action movies. I can't remember if they confirm it. They do confirm the car chase footage is from Charlie's Angels.
