not to get off topic, but it's a huge pet peeve of mine when people refer to characters by the names of characters they played in other films/tv shows.

In this case, I've seen Batman Begins, Major League and Juno, but when people haven't seen the other movies, it can be very confusing to follow. Especially when Tom Berenger has aged quite a bit between Major League and Inception.

I thought Sniper was recognizable even with the white hair.

Did Juno create that "level" as well? It seemed they dropped the Jake Taylor angle when they went to that third "level"
The basic idea is that someone on the team creates and maintains the actual world, then the mark enters the dream and fills it with their projections and secrets.

Ellen Page's character, Ariadne, was the architect, meaning she designs the dream worlds. However, she wasn't actually creating any of the dream worlds during the inception, she was just along for the ride. She gives the dream worlds to others to dream. Eames is the one actually dreaming the world.

Fischer enters that dream assuming that the world will be filled with his lawyer Browning's projections. However, since Browning was actually a projection of Fischer in the Hotel dream level, Fischer unconciously fills the snow level with his own projections.

I can understand that, but I think most people know her as Juno, more so than "Ellen Page." Plus, most of the character names in Inception were pretty unusual. Dom Cobb. Mal. Juno's?

When I see Ellen Page I see Juno regardless of what she's in. Cillian Murphy is just so associated with Scarecrow in my mind that I assume it's like that with everybody. Jake Taylor was just thrown in there to see if anyone could figure that one out.

Wait, Eames was dreaming the world? I thought all three levels were in Scarecrow's mind (sorry, couldn't resist)?

No, the dreamer in each level is a different member of the team and it's never "Scarecrow." He's the subject who fills each level with his projections, but never the dreamer. Remember when all the projections start paying more attention to one of the members of the team? - that's the dreamer for that level. Remember how not everyone can go down to the next level? - the one that stays behind is the dreamer for that level.

Re: Inception (Nolan, 2010)- The Reviews Thread

There is an architect, a subject and a dreamer. The architect doesn't necessarily have to be present, but in this case, she is.

Fischer is the subject (projecting his subconscious) in all three levels. The dreamer for the first level is Yusuf, second level Arthur and third level Eames. Each of these three people stay behind on their level, making sure everyone below is safe.

Edit: beaten by kefrank!

Saw this today and loved it! Especially the ending, even though you could see it coming a mile away. Would have voted 4.5 if that was an option.

Ok, that makes perfect sense hence the "you couldn't have pee'd before" line to Yusuf when it was raining in the first level.

I assumed the person that stayed only stayed to give the kick.

You could see an open ending to the film that leaves everything open to interpretation a mile away? Like they just as easily could have obviously tied everything up in a bow?...

Perhaps he meant the happy ending followed by a scene that makes us question whether or not Cobb is dreaming.

Re: Inception (Nolan, 2010)- The Reviews Thread

Saw this today. God, it felt great to see something so refreshingly original and creative.

As to some of the complaints about the characters not being likable or having personality. I thought it was fine. I don't need supporting characters like Spielberg does it. Especially in Saving Private Ryan, every character had to have a backstory. It worked in that movie but I didn't need it in Inception. I thought Hardy and JGL did a fine job of adding whatever character they could to their roles. Sometimes subtle characters are just as good as over the top ones. I think Hardy's role definitely could have been the over the top character, but I'm glad he didn't go that direction.

1. The Dark Knight
2. Batman Begins
3. Inception
4. Memento
5. The Prestige
6. Insomnia
7. Following

I love all 7 of his movies. Hard to put them into order.

Holy crap. The hallway scene was all done with practical effects.

No, part of the con is that when they go to the "snow" level the target thinks it's his dream, when in fact it was Eames'

Wasn't it cool when Tommy kissed that woman from the Cisco commercial?

I figured there were at least some CGI camera tricks. I should have known better considering Nolan flipped an entire semi, when he could have easily opted for CGI.

that was my mental reasoning. If he's going to literally flip an entire semi IN THE MIDDLE OF CHICAGO...then spinning room....piece of cake. Considering that well..a lot less paperwork for that effect over the Chicago one. I kid you not..i'd want an entire feature length doc on that chase sequence alone.

Seems that last week Zimmer and Marr performed the score to Inception live...damn cool

Unless something truly amazing comes along, it will be a crime if he doesn't walk away with an Oscar for that score. A large portion of the film really works as well as it does because of the score.

Re: Inception (Nolan, 2010)- The Reviews Thread

I'll be amazed if Nolan doesn't at least get nominated for Best Director..a Nomination I still think he deserved for TDK...even a win for it at that time. I want Nolan to get a damn Best Director Oscar for this.
