Jonah Hex... I guess I can't buy into silly western films. My friend asked me what I thought about the film and I told him hell no, I didn't want to see it. He seemed surprised. Brolin already played that badass Western hero and ended up getting killed by a bunch of Mexicans... not going to see this film which is clearly below him.

So a by-all-accounts terrible movie did terribly at the box office. Maybe there is some justice in cinema!

Kind of surprised about K&D. It certainly looks like fun.

I admit I would have gone and watch the movie with Matt Damon and Sandra Bullock! The current film with Cruise and Diaz not so much.

Ugh. Surely statements like this being made seriously signal that we are in the End of Days.

Too many of these male, female spy movies could have a lot to do with it also.

I think Brolin has that star macho power Arnie,Eastwood and Bronson had in their heyday. He needs to star in serious action low budget movies like TAKEN.

Cruise films do well overseas. Knight and Day should be fine.

I used to read "Joan Hex" as a kid (still have some of those issues) I have to go back and read if there was all this "BOOM" going on. Its a western come on.

is Cameron Diaz a box office draw? Is she the poison guilty of the film underperforming in it's opening.

But 27mil over 5 days isn't too bad. Cruise films have legs, and like someone noted, it'll do well overseas and not loose anyone any money.

I have to agree with the Knight and Day poster/1 sheet. WTF was that all about?

Re: Weekend Box Office (6/25-6/27): Hex is an amazing failure

I know Sandler movies get a lot of crap here but my son and his friend wanted to see this today so we checked it out. I enjoyed it for what it was and was glad all the funny parts were NOT in the preview for a change. The preview for the movie The Other Guys was worth the price of admission alone. That looks great.

Not at all surprised about Jonah Hex. I was a big comic geek as an adolescent, and even then I didn't see the appeal. Who in the world thought this movie would make any kind of money?

Re: Weekend Box Office (6/25-6/27): Hex is an amazing failure

As much as I loathe Sandler, he is pretty much a guaranteed box office draw especially when he's in a comedy geared toward the mainstream public.

I've never found Cameron Diaz to be a box office draw either. I think most of the hits she's in suceed despite her.

I sorta agree. I'm starting to think NCFOM was a one time thing.

he was decent in American Gangster, In the Valley of Elah, Planet Terror and NCFOM (all 2007, has this ever been done before?).

and he was superb in Milk and W.

Six solid films in a little over two years. He's a good actor, and he'll probably be perfectly slimey in the new Wall Street movie.

Re: Weekend Box Office (6/25-6/27): Hex is an amazing failure

Kind of surprised the gross for the weekend, overall, was sort of low. Tried to go to the theaters yesterday and it was just ridiculously packed with numerous sold out showings of Toy Story, Grown Ups and Knight & Day.

Then again, it was like 105 degrees (felt like it at least) yesterday.

I'm sure the Jonah Hex theater had more than enough room.

Exactly. He doesn't have to be a star. He doesn't have to generate boxoffice. He can be like Duvall and Hackman and go back and forth between lead roles in smaller, interesting films and supporting roles (villains and such) in larger Hollywood releases. Nobody ever stopped hiring Duvall and Hackman because their films didn't hit #1 at the boxoffice. Brolin can afford to do a JONAH HEX now and then.

He's already proven himself a far more interesting actor than his father.

I've never heard as much negative word of mouth as I've heard about Grown Ups, and that is coming from people who normally love everything they see.

Toy Story 3 is going to crush Shrek 4.
