Ah, someone besides me who remembers the "Twilight Zone" episode, "Steel" (1963 season), with a similar plot in which Lee Marvin played the trainer. Written by Richard Matheson. I wonder if he gets a credit on this new one.

When your teaser makes your movie look this bad, it ain't a good sign.

All is known is that he plays a "key role". Rumour has it Vincent Cassel will be the surgeon.

New trailer. I was pretty game for this movie cuz it looked interesting and I like Jackman..but damnit...they put a kid into it. Granted, I was sure it wasn't going to be groundbreaking storywise but damnit...it's more cliched w/ the kid. If it was just the Jackman character and the robot....I think I'd more entertained by the story.

Just a thought on the premise, I assume America rules the world because of their invincible robotic army, right? I mean I think if you're going to spend millions of dollars on robots you're going to use them for something other than beating the shit out of each other.

It's a movie clearly inspired by Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots. The less you think about the premise, the less you'll hurt yourself.

The teaser looked like a fun silly movie. The trailer gives me the same vibe. I won't be in a hurry to see it but I will see it (most likely when it hits BD).

I dunno...the teaser gave me fun silly movie premise vibe. The Trailer gives me a father and son becoming closer while also getting that robot to be a fighter worth winning. It really killed it for me.

So this is OVER THE TOP sans arm wrestling, Terry Funk, and Stallone?

Pass.

What is Jackman doing in crap like this? How could he read the script and think this was a good idea? It may be silly fun, but it looks ridiculous, even when compared to Transformers. I bet the Transformers success is what spawned this.

Since when is Jackman known for being discerning about the scripts he chooses?

Yeah...Swordfish and Wolverine are the standouts that sometimes...Jackman has poor taste.

Re: Real Steel (Levy, 2011) - Hugh Jackman trains robot boxers

the one thing I find oft-putting about the trailer is how smug Jackman's character acts - I just want one of those robots to smack the frickin' smirk off his face. Supposedly some of the early reviews of the film are positive, despite the awful trailers.

i don't mind his character being smug even when he shouldn't be considering his bad luck. People like that exist.

My whole family wants to go see this movie, we all love Jackman and "Rock'm Sock'm Robots meets the Movie Rocky".

The guy in this review loved it:
