King Kong

Soon the original 1933 King Kong will be coming to Blu-Ray. Which version is your favorite? 1933, 1976 or 2006.

Peter Jackson made another Kong movie in 2006? ;)

I'll go with my fav since childhood: 1933.

I'm still amazed that this was made and released in the same year at it's predecessor.

Assuming that means bad, I agree. At least when compared to the vastly superior 1933 and even 1976 versions.

Bah, the 1933 version is not even colorized. Who would want to watch that?

The 1933 version will forever be entertaining, I don't see how a remake can beat it.

The '76 one just plain out sucked. The '33 was great for it's time, but is waaaaay out dated, and hard to enjoy imo. So my vote goes to Jackson's Kong.

Re: King Kong

The 1933 will always be the best just because it was original and innovative for its time. The 1976 is okay when viewed as a 70s disaster movie, but at times can be quite unwatchable.

I really like PJ's version and think it would have done better had they cut about 30 minutes out of it. Most people I knew who didn't catch it were not turned off by another King Kong movie as much as they were a three hour version of one. I loved having the character development and such, but it wasn't necessary for the movie, at least in the theatrical run.

Blasphemy to some but this would mirror my opinion.

I think the 1933 version followed by the 2005/early 2006 version makes for ideal viewing and helps one appreciate the other moreso.

The way to look at it is the 2005 version is a more realistic depiction of what would have happened with the story at the time (as realistic as possible given the fact it's about 20+ ft tall ape), and the 1933 version depicts events done in the sensational style of the 30s.

I would watch the 1933 version, but they haven't released it in widescreen yet.

Re: King Kong

1933, is it even a contest here? Even Peter Jackson would admit his film isn't as good as the original I'm sure. I'd take the 70s version as much as it sucks over his 3 hour CGI snore fest.
