I didn't like it taking place in the 50s or having to do with aliens. I always felt that Indiana Jones was tied to that pulp era, and the Aliens with big eyes ala Communion didn't really start till the 70s/80s, right?

It just didn't feel right to me. If they would have made the aliens a little more throwback, or maybe had a story tied to the Lovecraft mythos, that would have felt more natural. Actually, no aliens.

So what's next. Are Orlando Bloom & Hayden Christensen going to do the same shit so they can be forgiven for being shitty actors.

I think this was his senior thesis in the Megan Fox school of public relations. Congrats! You graduated!

Sorry Shia but you are a poor man's Joseph Gordon Levitt.

I liked IV okay, although it was by far the weakest of the bunch. The alien plot was far-fetched, but so was the Ark of the Covenant, Mola Ram, and the cup of Jesus. I loved seeing the return of Marion, as well as keeping the Ick Factor (snakes in I, bugs in II, rats in III, and ants in IV).

Indy 4 is the worst piece of shit I've ever seen. You could combine my disappointment from the Star Wars Prequels, Spiderman 3, and Transformers 2 and it wouldnt come close to how let down I was after Indy 4.

Indiana Jones is my favorite series ever, and the 4th one just broke my heart with how horrible it was. Go swing with the monkeys Mr. Lucas.

Agreed...what a POS. Now I'm waiting for Wall Street 2 to be a utter mess as well. Shia needs to get the eff out of Hollywood.

Wow...I could not have said it any better...especially the "in a studio lot against a green screen" part. The movie just lacked depth...all over.

I was really disappointed with Indy IV. I loved the mythology behind the first three films...but aliens just didn't do it for me. I really hope Lucas and Spielberg just call it a day on the Indy series...rather than tarnish its great legacy even more.

This whole thread reminds me of the South Park episode "The China Problem"...epic stuff...

No, that's not correct. As early as the late 1800's/early 1900's, Aleister Crowley claimed to commune with a creature from another plane, and the drawings of that creature eerily match the images of grey aliens.

After that, when abduction stories began to take off in the late 40's/early 50's, almost all the descriptions where of aliens that were small, grey, with big heads and large black eyes.

So can I get my $11 back from Shia for watching that POS movie?

What Suprmallet just said...

I actually liked INDY 4 because of the alien subplot. I think the final spaceship thing was overdone, but I liked that they referenced Roswell the way they did.

Yeah, even though I think he's right on some points... this reads more like him trying to reinvent his image and possible pursue some more "artful" type films. What age is he? 24? He's probably just becoming a hipster and instead of being able to quietly retreat into the shadows and emerge a bit later as a skinny jeans wearing, PBR drinking, Godard loving scenster unnoticed... he has to backtrack from his "mainstream Hollywood" image in the public eye.

Also, I may be a little cross at him for starting up a relationship with Carey Mulligan (). The fact, his much cooler and more talented girlfriend's "young actor resume" is more impressive than his has sparked some jealousy? Anyone remember that "one girl from college" that made you smoke clove cigarettes and pretend to be into -insert indie band/writer/director- to get her to notice you?

I do actually like Shia, but the line about him being a poor man's JGL is brilliant and I couldn't agree more.

THANK YOU. I never got why people freaked over the Alien thing but somehow the Ark, Jesus Cup or Mola Ram was easier to swallow.

I loved seeing the return of Marion

This right here made the whole film for me. Seeing her great smile and real chemistry of the characters and actors.

In my opinion, if they really wanted to make more Indiana Jones, they should have structured it similar to the episode of "Young Indiana Jones" that Ford cameoed in and had Ford reminiscing and flashing back to a younger Indiana Jones (somewhere between Young Indy and Raiders) played by a new actor. That would be a good way to segue from one actor to the other. Although Ford is so heavily associated with the character that I'm not sure that any actor would be able to successfully be accepted in the role outside of him.

I think Dennis Quaid would make a great Indy. He's got the look and he's only in his 50's, so he's not too old to do some physical stuff.

my nongay mancrush on Jensen Ackles resurfaces

http://krumplicukor.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/wow.jpg

HE should have been the one cast as Indy's son... he has that young Harrison Ford ruggedness, sly humor, and swagger to pull it off.
