Not liking these developments. First, not a fan of the trailer - looks to sacrifice the spirit of the books for blowing things up with tons of CGI. Also, the run time and August release date (albeit early August) are troubling. Unfortunately, my hopes have diminished.

It's a continuation of the book's story (major book spoiler, maybe minor movie spoiler).
Spoiler:
The end of the books have some kind of "reset" artifact and it all starts over again. Or something like that.

As far as I know, there won't be a sequel unless this one is a hit.

Thanks, not opening up that spoiler.

So this movie takes place after the full book series? Is it written at all for people who are new to the series?

Given my spoiler, we should be fine. Fresh start.

I never read the books either. I just know a little about the story.

If I'm not mistaken, the kid was never a part of the original books either.

Yes, he was. At least the names of the character (Jake Chambers) is the same in the movie and books.

You're spoiler is, let's say, partially correct and you are incorrect about the kid, Jake. He's been in the series since the original Gunslinger novel.

But Roland wasn't a part of the original books if I'm not mistaken.

The Gunslinger wasn't originally in The Gunslinger?

Mistaken again.

But the books weren't actually part of the books ... right?

I was just kidding, I've read all of the books. What would be interesting is if this series is a success and they include Stephen King as a character. Who would play him?

Joe Hill could fill his dad's young shoes pretty well.

Gotcha, sorry!

You'll say I'm crazy, but Steve Buscemi.

It's a movie. Shouldn't the screenwriter play himself in it?

He meant literally the screenwriter since he's the "writer" of the movie.

Not yet no.

The UK ratings board includes running times in its listings of movie ratings, but the film hasn't been rated there yet:

This looks terrible. I have only read the first four books and that was over twenty years ago. I think I will read the series and skip the film.

That seems pretty lean considering the source material.

Which means, w/o credits, it's probably around 85 minutes...

Re: Stephen King's The Dark Tower - (2017, D: Arcel) S: Elba, McConaughey

This might be a 1st. I don't think I've ever seen anyone here complain that a movie isn't long enough.

Most here complain that some movies were too long. Wonder Woman and Spider-Man have been mostly well liked here, but a few here have said they were too long.

I don't know man. You can't have it both ways.

Now a Stephen King movie isn't long enough.

I also thought this would be at least a 2 hour movie, but I'll be fine with a lean 95 minutes. My guess is they did some heavy editing for pacing. But, I guess we shall see what the early reviews say.

A good movie is never too long. And a bad movie is never short enough.
