Unfortunatly, if the studio doesn't have rights to the FF, they might not be able to use Original Human Torch because it is too similar to the FF version. Lawyers could argue viewers might get confused between the two.

You could even lose the original Human Torch angle and instead tie it into Hank Pym/Ultron somehow. SOMEHOW!

Didn't Ultron create Vision to attack Avengers but he turned good? At least thats what happened in one of the cartoons. So the Pym > Ultron > Vision thing works.

Well Marvel has rights to the Original Human Torch; in the Silver age, the original Human Torch was dug up by Ultron and reconstructed/programmed as Vision to kill the Avengers.

And I could see a studio not wanting to have a human torch in a movie starring Chris Evans. That could be even more confusing for viewers.

Huge mistake. Norton was a great Banner. Fuck you, Marvel.

Re: The Avengers - May 2012 - D: Joss Whedon

In the grand scheme of things, I'm not sure it's going to make much of a difference. Downey, Hemsworth, and Evans will all be fresh in the general public's minds as the characters they are portraying. Norton played the Hulk in one film that, when Avengers comes out, will have been 4 years in the past. And, while it did reasonably well in the theaters, it wasn't considered a massive hit. I don't think Norton is as associated with the character as the other actors are/will be with theirs at that point. Having enjoyed "The Incredible Hulk", I wish Marvel could work something out with Norton. But if the Banner role isn't major in the movie and it's more the Hulk making appearances, I don't think Marvel is really hurting themselves by not using Norton. I honestly don't think the general public is going to notice more than maybe passably.

Do you think comic book fans are morons with short term memories? Edward Norton was the last Hulk and people remember that. The movie, by all means, was a financial success after the Blu-ray and DVD release. This is a very stupid move on Marvel's part and I do think that they need to reconsider.

Let's see.... spend 200 million, but not cough up the 3-4mill for a Norton supporting role....brilliant.

It better be one heck of a movie because I just lost a ton of interest.

And Eric Bana was the last Hulk before him. And Ferrigno before him. People might wonder why it isn't Norton, but I really don't think anyone is going to give a crap. Norton is a good actor, but people will want to see Hulk on screen, not Banner. Some schlub filling in for Banner's human scenes isn't going to matter much to JSP.

Then why bother to have a Tony Stark cameo in The Incredible Hulk if you weren't going to tie the participants in that movie into the Avengers Initiative?

Downey Jr. is a far bigger draw than Norton. Also, he IS Iron Man, people cannot imagine one without the other. Not the case with Hulk.

Really, Marvel is all about creating a film world where all these movies connect, yet they keep messing with continuity.

Lets replace Terence Howard with Cheadle and now lets recast Banner.

Doesn't make sense in what they are trying to accomplish.

Just bring back Bana and pretend Norton never happened; that would be awesome!

Have Bana poke his head out from behind the shower curtain telling Betty (Jennifer Connelly) that he had the weirdest dream...

Norton was great as Banner, but The Hulk is really all that matters for this film. He and Marvel were at odds over the final cut for The Incredible Hulk, so I can see that still being an issue for them. Maybe they hold grudges.

Bana looked like Norton's Hulk and Norton looked like Bana's Hulk.

Hopefully they'll get it right this time.

Don't really care who plays Banner - frankly neither Bana or Norton fit my idea of Bruce Banner anyway, and it's likely Banner would only be in a couple of scenes of any Avengers movie and CGI Hulk in the rest.

I don't mind that Norton broke out, they can always replace him as Bruce Banner.

They can use Tom Greene.
