I think you can take the basic framework of these movies and subtly add the more outlandish and supernatural elements needed for such a crossover. Just enough to make a teamup possible but so meaningless on its own to still permit standalone movies.

If I recall, technically it's not the same character. Then again, the same holds true between Yojimbo and Sanjuro.

I was under the impression that Sanjuro in Yojimbo and Sanjuro are one and the same..just that the latter film took a lighter tone than it's former.

Sanjuro is a prequel to Yojimbo. Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo pits Zatoichi against an unnamed ronin who is clearly intended to be Sanjuro.

AvengerNews is reporting that "Lost" star Josh Holloway has been approached by Marvel Studios to play a "lead" role in an upcoming Marvel film. It's unclear what role he's being considered for.
Some of the possibly options may be to play Henry Pym, who is one of the founders of The Avengers and the main character in the "Ant-Man" film. And even though Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) is in talks to play Hawkeye, there is a chance that Holloway is being considered for the role as well.
Finally, the character of Timothy "Dum Dum" Dugan is still available. The character is an important S.H.I.E.L.D. member in "The Avengers" and its sequels, and is one of the leads in the "S.H.I.E.L.D." movie.

I'm not familiar with the Hank Pym character, but if he is a cocky, sarcastic smart-ass then Fillion is definitely a good choice. And I mean that in the nicest possible way!
