What the hell happened to Val Kilmer?!?
Just threw in the "new" Bad Lieutenant and caught the trailer for Double Identity/Fake Idendity...

ELECTRICITY FTW!
I've noticed over the past few months he's showing up in tons of direct-to-video crap-looking releases...what the hell happened to the guy?!? Maybe I give him too much credit after his role as Jim Morrison or seeing him in Heat, I don't know.

I just looked at his filmography on Wikipedia. Looks like he's in one or two good movies per year. Not too shabby.
From the looks of it, he works a lot with indie companies. Actors that work for a reasonable fee and take roles in smaller movies. I like that. You never know which movies will and won't 'work' and be sold off and become big hits. The leftovers end up 'direct to dvd'.

I thought he was great in Bad Lieutenant: Port of call New Orleans.
Of course he'll always be Chris Knight/Shiherlis to me.

Oh no...someone will remember that Kilmer was once Batman. Next thing you know, Dark Knight threads will be all over the place.

From what I read he had trouble loosing the weight from Alexander. But like Troy said, he does work for a lot of indie companies, with a studio pic thrown in here and there. I still enjoy him as an actor, even though he may not be considered A list anymore.
Films like Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang give him a forever pass from me.

Odd bit of trivia. 50 cent gave Val Kilmer a car worth 100k. Apparently they are really good friends.

I saw him in a live performance of a Shakespeare play in the '80s and remember him being a pretty solid actor. Haven't seen anything he's been in lately though.

Not enough people saw Spartan. I recommend it, if you're renting Netflix - or just want to take a chance buying it for $10-or-so.

Re: What the hell happened to Val Kilmer?!?
I thought i read something about him trying to get the film industry going in New Mexico or Arizona. He owns a giant ranch, like the Ponderosa, hangs out there and occasionally makes movies to keep some money coming in.
"How did the respected Kilmer get involved in something this preposterous? Community ties. Kilmer has lived on a ranch near Santa Fe since 1983, and acts as an advisor to the New Mexico Film Investment Program. His commitment to that program has stimulated an increase in the state's annual production revenue, from $3 million in 2002 to $117 million in 2006. He has shown a willingness to do what is necessary to bring film projects to his state, and that includes lending his own name to appropriate projects. In this case, he not only lent his acting talents, but also provided the sprawling 6000 acres of his ranch for location shots."
I liked him in Spartan and Kiss Kiss, loved his aping of Morrison, so he can get as fat as he wants and hang out with Pierce Brosnon and compare bellies for all i care.

I really liked his performance in "Wonderland" as well, he played John Holmes very well, although I have no real basis to tell how accurate his performance was.
