Ehhhhh... I'd rather get another proper sequel but, then again, it isn't like Hedlund was going to suddenly become a compelling lead anytime soon, so... sure, go ahead.
But bring back Kosinski. I love his style.

The animated series tuned me out, I just didn't care for it at all. If Leto is the main driving force behind a third, I may tune out as well. I grew up on the original and liked the sequel a lot. But if they're resurrecting this because Leto wasnts to be in it, I hope they don't make it. Hedlund wasn't that great, but he wasn't that bad. I really wish they'd continue the storyline with the Flynn's, Bradley/Tron, and Dillinger.

Let me guess, for publicity they'll hype his performance for months before the film is released. When all is said and done the majority of his role will be edited from the final movie and what's left will be extremely underwhelming.

TRON 3 (Leto)
I was one of the fans of both movies so this sounds good to me.
It’s been just shy of seven years now since TRON: Legacy arrived in cinemas. It did good business, but it was such an expensive film to make, that Disney dithered over making a third movie. Still, it didn’t completely pull the plug until relatively recently, in the aftermath of filling its slate with Star Wars and Marvel movies.
However, there was talk earlier in the year that a new TRON film may still be viable, with Jared Leto linked with playing the lead in the new project. And according to Leto, there’s still a flicker of hope that that’s the case.
Chatting to Collider, he confesses his love of TRON, saying “it was a huge movie for me as well and I do think there’s so much potential in that world, there’s so much left to be said”.
He also said that he’d be keen to help bring a new TRON film to life in any way possible, adding that “it's something that we're in discussions about and very much looking forward to bringing to reality. It's very early days though”.
“It’s alive”, he confirmed. But it’s going to take some time yet to get going.

Per Leto, at least Disney is talking about it. Most of us assumed TRON was dead.

From August:
While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Bridges was asked about the ongoing Tron 3 rumors and replied “Yeah, yeah, I’ve heard those rumors too. I hope that happens. I think Joe’s got the script and everything, you know. Yeah, I don’t know that I’m supposed to talk about it or not. I don’t know. It should be the first virtual reality movie, you know? Wouldn’t that be cool…to see Tron in that world?”

Garth Davis hired to direct.
Garth Davis hired to direct.
EXCLUSIVE: After taking its time figuring out where it wants the next Tron installment to go, Disney’s sci-fi franchise looks to have new life as we are hearing Garth Davis has been tapped to direct the pic starring Jared Leto.
Davis has been better known for his smaller art house films over the years like 2018’s Mary Magdalene and his critically acclaimed 2016 drama Lion, which received six Oscar nominations including for Best Picture. Tron would mark Davis’ first tentpole, and though he is not known for big-budget projects, insiders say Davis aggressively pursued the job, eventually winning over execs.

I'm just glad this isn't completely dead. Yeah, Leto sucks. I wonder what happened with the Kosinski follow-up. Legacy wasn't the greatest but it could have been a lot worse. I was looking forward to a sequel of it. I was hoping the Cillian Murphy/Dillinger connection was foreshadowing of the story to come. Leto involved with this kind of makes me want to pass.

I think the best bet will be a new story in the same world, with only a tangential connection the previous ones. There's so many things you could do in that kind of universe.

I want Cillian Murphy as Dillinger Jr and David Warner in a cameo as old Sark, and he should look like a grey and red Dumont.

Leto’s good. He’s an Oscar winner. Gets lost in roles. I like him a lot. As well as lead singer of Thirty Seconds to Mars. Plus, he’s pretty. And I mean that in a masculine way.
