TRON: ARES (D: Rønning) S: Jared Leto

Re: TRON: ARES (D: Rønning) S: Jared Leto
I kept thinking Leto was in Tron, too. Your answer to the problem seems plausible. He looked like a Tron character in Blade Runner and his part in Blade Runner could be confused with Cillian Murphy's character in Tron: Legacy.

Speaking of Cillian Murphy, his cameo in Legacy was to set him up as the villain of Ascension. Is it safe to assume that will not happen in Ares?

I enjoyed Tron: Legacy a great deal too. It had a dream like quality to it. Not expecting anything from the director of Maleficent and one of those abhorrent Pirates movies though.

Why is Leto on so many shitlists? He's not an actor I seek out, but he was really good in Dallas Buyers Club, Requiem for a Dream, Mr. Nobody and Prefontaine. Morbius and his Joker weren't that great and I don't like his music, but that doesn't make him a turn off to me.

I'm in for the spectacle alone, which has always been my favorite thing about the first two, but I am fully prepared to be disappointed by the soundtrack.

I'm not much of a fan of Leto, either. The roles I can recall range from "did fine" to "hated it", nothing has really made me think he was something worth seeking out. I'll watch any Tron movie, but my interest is lessened with Leto as a primary role.

I think Leto is fine as an actor, but more as a secondary character, like the creep in The Little Things.

Deadline has confirmed that Evan Peters has joined Disney’s third installment of Tron, entitled, Tron Ares.
As we first told you, Jared Leto is starring in this sequel with Joachim Rønning directing. If there’s no SAG strike, the pic will hopefully shoot in Vancouver in August.
Leto will play Ares, the manifestation of the Tron program. No word on who Peters will play, but there’s two key parts that of a soldier in the virtual world and a gamer in the human sphere.
Emma Ludbrook, Jeffrey Springer and Leto are producing. Russell Allen is EP.
The first Tron was released by Disney in 1982 and starred Jeff Bridges as video game creator Kevin Flynn who wound up being warped inside his video game, forced to participate in gladiatorial games where his only chance of escape is with the help of a heroic security program. Along with The Last Starfighter, it was one of the first movies to use CGI effects. The pic made for $17M, yielded a global box office of $50M. It wasn’t considered a commercial success but triggered a cult appeal (and an arcade game) in the VHS era.
Joseph Kosinski’s sequel in 2010 was suppose to be a big Christmas pic for Disney in the pre-Marvel, pre-Lucasfilm era for them. However, it cost $170M and only grossed $400M worldwide — not enough for a title they promoted a year in advance and strutted at San Diego Comic-Con. That pic saw Bridges return as Kevin Flynn, but as a corrupted version. Garrett Hedlund plays Flynn’s son, Sam, who goes looking for, and up against his father in the virtual world, while teaming with a woman (Olivia Wilde) who was born in the digital world.

So after two movies where Tron is a bit character in the movies that share his name, this movie will star Tron 2.0 but his name is Ares? Okay then...

Greta Lee, who is generating much buzz for her role in the acclaimed romantic drama Past Lives, has logged into Tron: Ares, the newest installment of Disney’s cybertech adventure movie series.
In what is described as a leading role, Lee now joins Jared Leto and Evan Peters in the feature, which is gearing up for an August shoot in Vancouver. Joachim Ronning, who helmed Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and co-directed Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, is in the director’s chair.

Screw all those people. Are Bruce Boxleitner and Jeff Bridges back? Those're the only casting announcements I care about.

^ Throw in Cindy Morgan. I spoke to her at a con ten years ago. I told her I was disappointed she wasn't in the sequel and hoped she'd be back for the next one. She suggested I contact the studio and let them know.
Disney at least hired her to show up in character with Boxleitner during a fake ENCOM press conference to promote Tron: Legacy. When I asked about this, she alluded it was sort of a test to see if there was interest among the fans in seeing Lora/Yori back. As one of the original leads, what did she need to prove? Maybe it was a money issue, but it seemed sexist that they didn't at least give her a cameo.
