It's obvious from the finished results that he's not interested in them.

I'm taking the family to see this tomorrow. I can't wait - I love the first one. It's not a brilliant movie, but it's a ton of fun.

I'm gad the film is bombing. Looks horrid and the first film was awful, too.

The first one was a ton of fun. A great movie for those of us who grew up on alien invasion stuff like the original War of the Worlds. It was just this side of camp, but it was played seriously enough to work.

I should clarify a bit - 20 years ago when the first film came out it was great. It has not aged well at all and I just got burnt out on it and it doesn't hold any appeal to me. Also, it's a bad film. I do like the model work, though.

Having watched it two weeks ago it still works for me. So does the 1953 War of the Worlds. One of the things I love about Independence Day is the sheer enthusiasm that the cast had. They're totally hamming it up, having a great time while the world is under attack from aliens, and unless you're a stick in the mud you can't help but enjoy watching that.

I'm pretty sure they hit every cliche in the genre in this movie.
