I already tried to make that case:

Are we excluding the serials, then? Because if not, then the date range should be: 1943-2008.

I was rebuked.

honestly it doesn't matter guys, the focus is on the character. Besides, does anyone think about the serials? You think about Michael Keaton, Christian Bale, etc.

Honestly, it does matter. Whether you think about the serials is irrelevant; what matters is, they existed and are part of the character's cinematic history. Those two serials were all anyone had until '66, meaning they were Batman for an entire generation. Believe it or not, things that happened without your notice or care matter.

Re: DVDTalk draft game

A serial isn't a movie, and the key word in the OP is "feature"

RoboDad 04-06-10 05:10 PM

Re: DVDTalk draft game

That was how I read it as well. To me "feature" implies "feature-length film". Serials were more akin to cartoon shorts, in that they were were usually shown before the feature presentation.

But be that as it may, it seems a bit pedantic to be that concerned about whether the entry in this list indicates 1966 or 1943 as part of the cinematic "range" of the Batman character. This is just a fun diversion, not a scholarly treatise.

Suggestion: how about making the time limit for each pick 12 hrs instead 24?

I would vote against this. There are a lot of reasons, but most selfishly, I'm in the midst of a pretty bad Crohn's flare. The only reason I'm online at all right now is that the steroids have kicked in and I'm awake at this moment. Twelve hours just isn't long enough to protect my turn right now.

Trust me I would love for the draft to speed up, but 24 hours is reasonable.

If we were really wanting to speed things along, we'd agree on one time for all of us to be online and wrap this thing up. :D

Seriously, 12 hours would be pushing it. You've got folks who work 12 hour shifts with no DVD Talk access or who would be sleeping during most of their 12 hour window.

Don't forget about Superman and the Mole Men starring George Reeves, which saw a theatrical release in 1951!
