Avatar: Predictable or not?

I'm pretty sure all of us have watched Avatar since it came out. I personally liked it a lot. It ranks right up there with Armageddon, Gladiator, and Transformers. After talking with some people I was a little surprised to find that most of them thought the movie was extremely predictable. I have to agree, but I still thought it was great. What are your thoughts?

Hi, I may sound like a dick but......

My thoughts are that maybe you should post in the Avatar thread on this site. In that thread you'll find my thoughts about the film.

What's predictable is that you're only a few posts away from posting links to a "site I found".

The moderators are like hawks here, sir or madam, and the users are not gullible to bright, shiny links. Just keep that in mind before posting anything else, as it'd be a waste of a bunch of peoples' times. :)

Thanks. I didn't post that Transformers one, it just got auto-linked if that's what you are referring to with a "shiny link". I'll just be sure to look a little more carefully before posting a thread. -smile-

Interesting that Avatar, Gladiator, Armageddon and Transformers were all mentioned in the same sentence.

well because they are all directed by the same director, Michael Scott, right?

They all belong in the same sentence.

I think I figured it out. They're all one word titles.

Was there ever a movie less predictable than Avatar? I guess if you had never seen or heard the basic premise of Pocahontas or Dances With Wolves it may have been 'new'.

Re: Avatar: Predictable or not?

It's not an awful film. It's a story that's been done to death and is full of cliches but visually Cameron did a good job. The action scenes were fun and the score was good and I guess that's why the movie turns out to be fun. It's alright action flick. It's not a horrible film by any means but is it worthy of its praise? Of course not.

you could do that with many movie, I have seen it with Star wars and a bunch of others. They have done the same thing with Harry Potter, basically ripping off Star Wars

Name four movies which made millions for investors, and didn't have to spend much for scripts?

Even in a well written movie, the script is probably one of the cheaper parts.

Nah.

It's not a good comparison at all. Harry and Hermoine aren't sisters. Voldemort wasn't Harry's father. Ron never got Harry out of a jam like Han Solo did with Luke. The differences go on.

The Last Samurai is pretty identical to Dances With Wolves but in my opinion, no story takes another story so much as Avatar takes from Pocahontas.
