Action really ramps up in this one... Good fun flick on a snowy cold afternoon. Need to watch original now to compare, but this one was loads of fun.

maybe I haven't been watching much tv lately, but I haven't seen one ad for this. The only reason I knew about it was from this month's Maxim.

Re: The Mechanic (Remake) - Jason Statham, Ben Foster
I just watched the first one last weekend, it is on Netflix streaming. It is just okay. Jan Michael Vincent sucks in it and is completely horrible. The movie was just okay. Bronson is just a more intense actor than Statham but this movie works. It was just a fun, mindless action film. I wish there was more depth. One part surprised me involving a garbage disposal and it was pleasantly surprising.

Loved it. I'm a big fan of B action films and Jason Statham once again pulls off playing the Cool, Badass Anti-Hero. The movie runs about 100 minutes and it's a simple murder for hire/revenge plot that's really easy to follow. There is some really jerky camera movements in some of the fight scenes that make them a little hard to follow, but other than that it was guns, broken bones, explosions and to top it off a fight scene with a 6 foot 7 inch Gay hitman
Recommended if your a fan of Statham and B action flicks.

This had the potential to be an A-level action/thriller had they given Statham and Foster more to actually say, which is frustrating as both are more than competent actors. In the end, it's an enjoyable action/thriller that delivers what is advertised. Had a lot of fun laughing at Statham's penchant for pea-coats with collars up (it seems like he just wears his street clothes in movies) and absurdly conspicuous swagger; love the guy's screen presence though.
A solid "B" or 3/5

A good actioner although pretty much par for the course for a Statham movie. But if that's what you want, and it was what I wanted, it will satisfy. Definitely a solid "B".

Re: The Mechanic (Remake) - Jason Statham, Ben Foster
In "The Mechanic", Jason Statham plays a long-time hitman, Arthur, who finds himself being assigned to kill off a father-figure, Harry, (Donald Sutherland) for the organization he works for, and having completed the assignment, ends up training Harry's son Steve in the ways of being a hitman, or a mechanic, to pay it forward in some strange way. But if Steve finds out about Arthur's role in his father's killing, what will he do? Hmm...
Overall, the action sequences were good, some were vastly over-the-top, but not objectionably so. It could have been better, but when things go bad, they really go bad, and it was entertaining to see how Arthur and Steve finagle their way out of really tight spots.
I give it 2.75 stars, or a grade of B-.

I just started watching the DVD of this today and in one of the early scenes he is in a dance club and there is a band playing that sounds a little bit like the Squirrel Nut Zippers. It is a female vocalist and has kind of a swing feel.
Anyone know who that band is? I was trying to see on soundtracks and imdb but couldn't puzzle it out.

alright. Just saw this. I liked it. Action was pretty cool. Solid B movie peice. I'll get it on BD at some point. Foster was good in it. Didn't reinvent the wheel or anything but it was good and enjoyable. Always great to see Sutherland. Haven't seen a more recent West film Tomb Raider since I was a kid, is it even a good movie? I remember liking it as a kid. I've seen Con Air a shit ton though...I have more confidence in The Expendables 2 cuz of West now, guess he hasn't lost it. Man knows how to shoot action very nicely. Not flashy..but very good looking.

I watched this a few weeks ago. Decent, but it rings hollow. They hit many of the beats the original film had, but they didn't feel genuine. This was another remake that felt forced. Statham is OK in the Bishop role, but I didn't buy Foster being the badass he was made out to be. Sutherland was a dead fucking ringer for Wynn, though. And what a fucking cop-out on the ending! Stylistically, nothing impressed me here. It looked and felt like a generic action vehicle. At least they kept the fact that Bishop has a killer pad intact - Bronson's house in the original film was insanely awesome.
